Review of Great Chase @ Six Flags New England

Do you remember Little Rickie’s Little Twister? You probably don’t, but that was SFNE’s only kiddie coaster until this Miler creation came to town during the later Riverside days. Flash forward to 2000 when Six Flags bought the park, they were forced to decide whether to keep the park’s classic kiddie coaster or the newer, more popular kiddie coaster. Ultimately, Little Rickie’s Little Twister was run out of town, but I believe the park made the wrong decision in my opinion. The Great Chase isn't the worst kiddie coaster I've been on, but it's one of the worst I've been on, as this ride obviously wasn't made for adults and I paid the price for the credit.

Located in Looney Tunes Land, one thing the ride has going for it is its appearance, which is excellent. Themed to the famous Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote and their epic chase through the desert, the Great Chase really captures the cartoonish atmosphere of the comics and fits in nicely with the area. Also, the ride absolutely attracts a ton of kids and therefore it had one of the longer waits I’ve endured for a kiddie coaster at 10 minutes or so. However, that mostly was due to the ride’s horrible operating procedure rather than its popularity, which I’ll detail later in my review.

Let me start off by saying that I’m not very tall at all and well below 6ft tall. Well, I was incredibly cramped in the Great Chase’s kid-friendly cars and had no let room at all. That set the tone for my experience as once the ride dispatched, I was at its unforgiving mercy. The lift was the best part of the ride, which never is a good sign for any coaster. After cresting the lift, I was treated to a rough and jerky ride that rivals some of the worst experiences I’ve ever had on a coaster. The drop was pretty bad and while the following bunny hill gave a surprising pop of air, the following compact helix killed the whole ride. It was absolutely brutal! I was thrown all around the car!

After returning to the station the ride stopped and I was glad it was over, but it was just a cruel prank. The ride gives two laps, but the train stops and the restraints need to be checked in between laps, which is a pretty redundant operating procedure in my opinion since the restraints were already checked initially. Is this the only one that does that because it absolutely ruins the pacing of the ride and makes the line unnecessarily longer?

Personally I liked the ride this replaced way better, but then again, I rode Little Rickie’s as a kid and may have had a different opinion if I had ridden this as a kid rather than an adult. However, I do understand the park’s decision to keep the newer and more popular of the two kiddie coasters since it pleases the kids, the ride’s target audience. Kids can’t miss this incredibly compact Miler coaster, but adults need to steer clear of this at all costs!
