The Dollywood Express was an enjoyable train ride, but perhaps not quite as good as I would have expected based on previous reviews. This is advertised as a 20-minute, 5-mile train ride through the Great Smoky Mountains. Based on this, I guess I was under the somewhat misled perception that we were actually going to be leaving Dollywood a bit to explore the surrounding wilderness. Alas, I never felt a very far-removed feel during any point of the ride. This could have been compounded by the fact that there was construction going on in the back area of the park, much of which was visible throughout the train ride. Still, I give Dollywood credit for making a train one of the most popular and celebrated attractions at their park, and it was a nice relaxing break in the middle of the day. I just think I got better views of the Smokies at plenty of other spots during my Tennessee/North Carolina trip.
