Review of Goliath @ Six Flags Over Georgia
2 Rating Posted by: shag9004 on 7/4/2007 5:21:00 PM
Date Ridden : Last summer and this summer. Times Ridden : 25 total in every seat imaginable.

I was surprised the best ride at my home park only had a few reviews. With the number of "time travels" I have taken on Goliath I feel very comfortable in being able to give an accurate depiction of this ride. Despite the corny theme (time travels and funky music on a ride named Goliath - A Giant Among Coasters? I really dont get it) the ride experience itself more than makes up for anything lacking in that area. Goliath is a ride that we dont have anything like down here in the south. To the best of my knowledge the only other hyper coasters that are even close would be Apollos Chariot in Virginia and Titan out in Texas. Thats it. Florida has some great rides but no hypers. I was so happy when they started building this ride that I went out and bought a season pass for the first time ever. Its worth it to me to just drive down there and ride it couple of times and come home. I find the front seat to be the best ride although you can get a good experience from virtually any seat. I think the front seat far right offers the best ride as you feel like you are about to fall out of the train on the overbanked turnaround as you head back to the station. This seems to me to be the best element of the ride. I even like it better than Nitros hammerhead which is so large it doesnt seem as forceful as this much shorter and much more intense turn. You actually feel that you are going to fall 150 feet out of the train and to the ground below. Floater airtime is abundant on virtually every hill, the trains are smooth and comfortable and the view of the city is at least ok. I like coasters that have a great view and there is only so much to see surrounding SFOG. The park is also so close to the airport that 200 feet is the ceiling for any rides there. So far the ride has run smoothly with very few problems. It is always running when the park opens and the line moves quickly. I like the fact that there is normally a ride op at the top of the stairs counting people off and stopping them after so many have entered the station. You can still ride whatever seat you want but they keep people from packing the station full which I absolutely despise. I personally feel that B and M have improved their designs on each hyper they have built and Goliath is the best so far. They are all so close as to each rate a 9 in my book but Goliath seems a little more intense with a bit more air than its predecessors. Its a great addition to SFOG and makes the park a must visit for enthusiasts. Please let me know when youll be there and Ill meet you with a tour!

UPDATE: 6-14-2008 Ride is still great. I made it on Opening and we rode it 50 (thats right, 50) times putting my lap count with a few other trips to an even 80. Goliath is still smooth with an abundant amount of floater airtime.
