Review of Griffon @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg
-2 Rating Posted by: cprules69 on 6/6/2007 11:36:00 PM
I loved the first drop. Imagine if it was 400 ft instead of 205 ft!

Griffon just doesnt do it!

Well it doesnt have a 400 foot drop.

Gee, I wonder what you are refering to with that comment...

"Griffon just doesnt do it"

What on earth does that mean? You gave it a 9, which is damn good. I wasnt complaining about your rating, I was complaining about your inability to write an analytical review of a ride without comparing it to a Cedar Point ride.

Actually, he does raise a good point. The B&M Dive Machines would be a lot better with more height. Something about the scale of the ride, the absurdly over-sized trains and wide track gauge does some weird forced perspective trick to make the drops seem shorter. And with drop towers being built way over 200 feet these days, its time for some parks along with B&M to step up and make more out of this very limited coaster genre.

No B&M has ever pushed the envelope for height or speed...they arent going to start any time soon. SheiKra and Griffon were both huge advances for the Dive Machine concept, but I seriously doubt it will advance much further. New inversions could potentially be developed, but more height and speed seems extraneous. I personally find Griffons 205 foot drop much more enjoyable than Drop Zones 300 foot drop...

I found Sheikras and Oblivions drop to be fantastic, and I rank Sheikra as my favorite drop on any coaster.

I prefer Raging Bulls first drop to Sheikras. *Shrug* I just think its the weakest B&M at BGA. Im looking forward to getting out to BGE next month.

Nothing B&M has created has really given me that great thrill that I need!

Im guessing its because they dont produce those high-profiling record breakers in height & speed that you love so much? Thats such a total CP fanboy statement. B&M is the biggest named coaster company in the world. They might have not made many record breakers, but their versatility in designs (inverts, stand-ups, twisters, floorlesses, hypers, flying, & now dive machines) is beyond fantastic & no other coaster company can ever be that versatile in ride designs. Also, they do provide an amazingly smooth sensation which in many cases have a high re-rideability factor. I only get upset with people whove been on many B&M coasters & then say that every other coaster not made from them are rough, but other than that, B&M should continue what theyve been doing because theyre definitely succeeding in the coaster business. Since you seem to be the record breaker type, let me break it down for you:

Alpengeist - tallest & fastest B&M invert

Montu - longest B&M invert

Dominator - longest B&M floorless

Riddlers Revenge - tallest, fastest & longest B&M stand-up

Superman: Krypton Coaster - fastest B&M floorless

Tatsu - tallest, fastest & longest B&M flyer

Griffon - tallest & fastest B&M dive machine

And none of those B&M coasters you just named are Exciting/thrilling! Intamin coasters are smooth as silk, especially the Force! Lets see B&M try to build a woodie or some flats like Intamin has been doing for many years! There is no B&M in my top 5 for a reason!

Montu isnt exciting? Its time to lay off the Scotch Guard for a while. Maybe you should give up the glue as well.

Although I personally give a slight edge to Intamin, to claim B&M doesnt make exciting coasters borders on insanity. They hold 60% of this years top 10 in the Internet Coaster Poll. They are the undisputed kings of the inverted coaster, a coaster type that has proven to be anything BUT a gimmick.

As for Millennium Force, its smooth because it doesnt do anything. Its not really that hard to give a coaster a smooth ride when its mostly straight track devoid of any real airtime hills.

Something tells me your opinions stem from the fact that youre a CP fanboi who really hasnt ventured that far out of Ohio.

Yeah, I am a bigger fan of Intamin hypers, but B&M sure can build an invert.

Anyway this review is garbage, dont compare a drive machine to an accelerator coaster. Apples and oranges. Most people have fanboy in them, but until you learn to keep it under control, dont post around here.

As Ive said time and time again, both B&M and Intamin serve different roles in the coaster industry. To claim one is more important than the other is immature on millforces part...I think Intamin builds more intense rides, as well. But that does not mean I cannot appreciate a solid, fun, reliable, smooth B&M!
