Review of Wonder Wheel @ Denos Wonder Wheel Amusement Park

I went to Coney Island to ride the Cyclone of course, but I thought Id give this a try too, as its probably the second most iconic attraction at this group of boardwalk parks. My reaction to this was pretty much the same as to DCAs Sun Wheel (which was of course inspired by the Wonder Wheel). Its just great to look at, but not the most entertaining thing to ride. The extra sliding and swinging of the ferris wheel seats is of course what this ride is all about, but the wheel revolves so slowly, plus stops and starts so frequently to load and unload, that the action is very inconsistent. Unlike the Sun Wheel, though, this one is so old that it felt like it was going to fall apart at any minute, and I actually kind of liked that, as it made the ride a little scarier than it otherwise would have been. I know Im in the minority bashing such a classic, and Im really not bashing it too much. I just dont feel that it delivers quite the thrill that its hyped up to.

Who did you talk to that made the Wonder wheel out to be a thrill ride? that makes no sense. More thrilling then a standard Ferris wheel yes but still not a thrill ride.

I didnt talk to anyone I guess. I just looked through all of the reviews about this ride, and almost every one has some mention of "scary", "terrifying", "crazy", "freaky", "thrilling", or "exciting". I just drew my own conclusion from these statements that the Wonder Wheel is meant to be a thrill ride.

A ride can be exiting or crazy but not Thrilling. one posted said this "This ride is terrifying in its own way" while another used the turn relating to his fear of heights. another statement mentioned "The swing is fun and freaky at the same time." A farley enexperienced park goer said "exciting non coaster ride I have ever been on I took the inside cars I thought it was pretty scary..." Not of this really indicates a thrill ride. In fact i couldnt get thrilling to com up on a search of the page on any post outside of yours. I think you read a bit too far into people posts.

does it really matter? i would have no problem with somebody that considers it a thrill ride if it scared them or whatever. are we being too picky?
