Review of Houdinis Great Escape @ Six Flags Great Adventure

I think Houdini was actually a very good attraction, and unusually elaborate for a Six Flags park. I would rank it higher than an 8, except that I believe some of the special effects were not working properly in the main presentation room. More on that in a second. First I want to mention the preshow room, which was impressively themed and detailed. It was actually quite reminiscent of Disneys Haunted Mansion preshow. The actual "ride" portion of the attraction then followed. It essentially consisted of rows of seats, facing each other, on opposite sides of a central walkway. During the presentation, the entire room is made to feel as though its spinning and flipping in complete arcs. I didnt think it was as disorienting or nauseating as some others have mentioned, but rather found the whole thing to be just plain unique. Now, Ive only ever ridden this once, so Im not really sure what was supposed to happen, but it seems to me that the center walkway was supposed to be utilized more than it was. There was a desk with a large mirror on one end that looked like it should have moved back and forth along the walk. Again, this is merely speculation, but I did feel like more effects were needed, rather than simply hearing Houdinis voice as the room rotated. Still, I give Six Flags credit for having an attraction like this in their park. Well worth a look.
