Review of Garfields Nightmare @ Kennywood

Ah yes, the much debated (and much maligned) Garfields Nightmare. "Why, oh why, did they change the Old Mill??"....."Garfield is so stupid!" These are the types of comments I have seen in reviews and heard from some people walking through the park. Look, Im not going to say that this was the BEST retheming they could have done. However, the way I look at it, I would much rather see a revival of a classic old-fashioned dark ride than to see it closed all together and removed. Lets face facts here - there just were not many people who rode the Old Mill before, and now this ride consistently has a decent-sized line. So, like it or not, Kennywood got exactly what they were looking for. The ride itself is still the Old Mill - NOTHING has changed with the ride itself; the only thing different is the scenery. The Garfield scenes will provide a chuckle, and the 3D glasses do add a neat effect. More than anything, this ride has become a huge hit with kids, which to me is great. Its nice that kids can experience, in their own way, a classic ride like this. If you have children, dont miss this attraction, as they will enjoy it! I give Kennywood credit for reviving this ride so that hopefully many future generations can continue to enjoy the quaint charm this ride has to offer.

Quaint Charm? Chuckle? Ugh, this ride gave me a headache last time I went on it. Old Mill was rideable by everyone, and had a Moderate-sized line. I like how they changed the outside of the ride, but those cheap props inside? Its geared toward little 5-year old Garfield Fanboys.

I dunno, in its last several years the Old Mill was a walk-on everytime I went to the park, where as now it always has a decent line. You seem to be a fan of dark rides, so I pose the simple question - would you rather it stay with a retheming or get torn down and go away forever? Like I said, it may not have been the best retheming, but it revitalized a dying classic. And your last statement is exactly what I was saying - its geared towards kids. See a kid come off the ride giggling with a huge smile and you may understand why I rated the ride the way I did.

It thought old mill had a mid-sized line, and I doubt that it would have gotten torn down. The gold rusher is frequently a walk-on, and thankfully, that is still up and running. But mostly, I agree with you, that it could have been rethemed without sucking so much as it currently does. EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to mention this: I didnt really see anything in there that would be funny, nor anything that Id think funny when I was a kid. Only "funny" things were the comics on the walls. If I were a little kid and went on that, then Id probably sh*t myself because its so trippy. Meh. Thats just me.
