Review of Magnum XL-200 @ Cedar Point
0 Rating Posted by: papa1958 on 9/11/2006 1:46:00 PM
Although this ride is tall, fast and long and has some interesting tunnel elements, it is not very comfortable to ride, especially in the front seat seat where riders are painfully smashed into the lap bars on the final bunny hills. I appreciate that Magnum was groundbreaking in its day, but why this Arrow coaster ride gets a near 9 rating, while the similar Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure gets a 7 rating is a mystery to me.

papa- i think this ride is endeared to so many people because it is very unique. the infamous "arrow roughness" is very present here, but how many hyper coasters can offer such a funky, clunky journey? i mean, for those who love hyper coasters, but also like rough and tumble woodies, this is a perfect fit. there will never be steel hyper coasters engineered in the "charmingly awkward" way that magnum is ever again. for some that is a blessing, i guess.

Harry--Thank you for your well considered comments. I think there may well be something to what you said. I have probably overrated the "Corkscrew" at CP and the "Double Loop" at Geagua Lake on similar bases, i.e., they were "quirky firsts" even if now they seem not so good in comparison with newer models.
