Review of Voyage @ Holiday World
-3 Rating Posted by: joebaba on 8/16/2006 9:33:00 PM
I rode Voyage on Aug 3, and found it way too rough. I have ridden Beast, Son of Beast, Villain, Mean Streak, Blue Streak and many others, and this was the first ride that I wished would stop. The lift hill and the second hill were lots of fun - after that it was just tedious, bone-shaking. As someone said, there are personal preferences involved - but try this test..... While waiting in line at the station for Raven or Legend, count the number of smiling people when the trains comes back to the station. There will be many. Then do the same thing on Voyage. There will be few. By the way, on the same trip I rode Hades at Wisconsin Dells. Judging by its look, I suspected it might also be designed by The Gravity Group (it is). And although the ride was very similar, it was much smoother, and thus much more fun.

Where did you sit on the train? It makes a huge difference as to the roughness. I found the front car to be quite smooth compared to the 3rd car, which KICKED MY A$$. Even the back car was fine. I dont know if it was that train, or that car, but it was a totally different from one ride to the next. However, I do think in a few years this will be unrideable.

you are right it is all about personal preference. For the record I saw every train filled with happy, smiling people coming into the station when I rode Voyage. I saw many more pained looks on Legend.

Obviously, to suggest that Voyage is rougher than Son of Beast is a bit of a stretch. I have probably ridden both many more times than you have this season (4 days at HW and 6-7 days at PKI). SOB is unquestionably rougher. I will buy that Voyage can be rough in certain seats, but rougher than SOB? No. What seat did you ride in? Did you ride the front? The front has been quite smooth every time I rode there. How many laps did you do? The nature of wood is that the rides can be quite inconsistent. I just got back from The Dells, and found Hades to be slightly rougher than Voyage in the front seat. Furthermore, its highly unlikely that HW will let Voyage go the way of Cedar Fair and GhostRider. HW actually maintains their rides. Look at how well the 11-year-old Raven runs.

Roughness is personal preference, but this was designed to give an out of control feeling, you cant do that and have a tame line. The smiling face excuse was lame. Hopefully you will be a good poster on this site and not someone who comes in to bash a ride and leave,

Now Im not disputing your clam. but I do find it a bit odd. i have read reports from many people on many different sites and none of them are saying the ride is as bad as you clam it to be. So I find your clams a git awkward. also a 3 is extremely hoarse even it if is a bit rough. That is telling me that its almost the worst coaster period in the world.

off topic but there are some doozy mrc moments in the above post, among his best ever. first and foremost is "disputing your clam" and "i find your clams a git awkward". LOL good stuff. great too is "a 3 is extremely hoarse". this is good because it makes it sound as if joe baba must have laryngitis or else he would have given a higher score. no offense, mrc, youre ok with me.

I dond know if I would call it "roughness" as much as "intensity"... And Intensity/roughness like that is not a problem IF delivered in the right amount. Case in point... Clementons J2 (aka Tsunami). Just as brutal and "intense" as Voyage... but on a much smaller and shorter scale. The "Enough is enough" factor hasnt yet been reached, and the "fun Factor" is still there when the train hits the station breaks. Difference is... J2 is 2600 ft of brutal intensity.... Voyage is 6440ft. There comes a point where the fun Intense and brutal ride gets old real quick... and somewhere between J2s 2600 ft and Voyages 6440 feet that point is passed.

I think this is a pure fanboy post. They have wrote one review and have not even responded to this one. Sounds like someone who wanted to knock this ride for other reasons. BTW if you only think this is a 3 level coaster you are either a sissy or not a true coaster fan. That doesnt mean its not intense, but no way is this a three.

^No maybe he just doesnt like it. To me, your comment is a whole lot more fanboyish than his review. "If you think its a three, you are either a sissy or not a true coaster fan."

Ok then why has he written ONE review and never been back. A fanboy comment would be this is this greatest ride ever and no way could it be beat. Or this is nowhere as good as Thunderhead so it gets a two. I am saying it is not a legit review, because I doubt if this reviewer will ever be back. My statement was pure opinion and my belief of any "coaster fan" who gives this a three. Meaning that 70% of the rides in the world are better than this.

I missed this review entirely. Anyways, even though hes a "one and done" poster, I do believe that he has ridden the ride, which is all we can ask for. The response is as expected though, and I cant say the review is good or bad, its just there. From what I can research, the reviewer has nothing to make me think that he or she is up to no good, even if I do think the ride is superior to a three.

"
Obviously, to suggest that Voyage is rougher than Son of Beast is a bit of a stretch." - kinda like saying Voyage and Legend are rougher than Thunderhead?

Is anything as rough as SOB? Seriously, that helix is fricken death. Nobody would ever make it off that thing alive if they had OTSRs.

I do think a 3 is a pretty silly rating, even if my most recent rides on Voyage might have reshaped my opinion a bit.

To the person saying that Ghost Rider isnt being taken care of is total bull. Its not the park, its CCI. Look at Lake Compounce, they keep there coasters in top shape, but CCI built the Boulder Dash like crap, and now its rough. And Correct me if Im wrong but Gravity Group, LLC is just CCI re-branded.
