Review of The Comet @ The Great Escape

The history of this coaster is fascinating, but that is where it ends. Simply put, I find this coaster to be very over-rated. Its a nice design with a decent ride. That is basically it. Dont get me wrong, the history and story of this coaster does it for me, but the ride itself just doesnt. Im just not feeling it. The drop is good and the pacing is excellent, but the air is not as hearty as what it should be due to some very harsh trims. The turnarounds are relentless, fast, and powerful, which I really like about the ride. There is a major negative that kind really hurts the positives. The first bunny hill after the first turnaround delivers a large amount of bouncing. The train bounces three times over that hill and is borderline jackhammering. The train also bounces once over the next little hop. The coaster is also in an odd location in the back of the park. Its almost like it is lonely back there. I hope that something is built around it soon. So, overall, just not feeling this one. It is good, but nothing near great.

somewhere on the comet, deep below who knows how many coats of paint, are probably some molecules of harry travers finger grease. back when the CB cyclone was new he probably leaned on the wood and metal supports a few times while inspecting the structure of the diving helix or the figure eight. its nice to think about, harrys leftover bodily oils, frozen in time. but there are way too many lukewarm reviews of the comet from sincere wood coaster fans like hercules to whet my appetite and get me excited about racing around over HTs finger grease molecules.

You said trims! This ride didnt have trims last year. are you positive there were trims? if there are that really sucks. Last year the Air time was fierce. When the train hit the brakes the up-stop wheels would spin for about a minute afterwards. boy i hope you just had a bad run.

mrc is right, unless they added trims this year, it never had them before. This has got to be an error, otherwise I would have heard about this by now. I decided not to get a season pass this year and havent been to the park yet. There was some slight reprofiling over a year ago to the pullout after the first turnaround, but other than that it runs just as good as it did at Crystal Beach. I better get up there this weekend to investigate...

Eh, trims, some kind of weird haulting... same thing to me. It ran like it had trims on it. Im saying that it did now that I have been questioned, but it ran like there were trims on it.

that is a depressing statement. The coaster is normally fast paced and full of air time. did it seem short from the beginning? Hopefully it was just a bad operational day and your wrong about the trims.

Im sure Im wrong about the trims. I just felt like something was dragging it down on a few of the hills. But yeah, I thought the pacing was good through out the coaster, but it just didnt deliver as much air as what I was expecting. I loved the fast turns though, but the rest of the ride just didnt do it for me. It is a great design though.

Were, seat wise, did you end up siting on your rides. after looking around i have found a few reports that have claimed it seemed to be riding a bit slow this year. Maybe its time for there trains to be overhauled.

I rode in the back car on all of the rides. I was going to head up front, but just didnt feel like it.

I asked around and All responses came back with No trims on the ride. many hadnt been to the park since early mid July but were able to verify that at that time there were no trims on the coaster. thats not an overnight addition and major down time would have been noticed.

Thank goodness there are no trims. That would have ruined the ride.
