Riding this was a rite of passage for kids waaaaay back in the late 50s. Out here in Calif. we called it The Hammer. There were several of these awsome contraptions making the rounds for many years. I remember when the Kemsley shows had them and they were in their resplendent original colors. It took me a long time to get up the guts to ride this beast; and then, as often happens, the actual experience was much less frightening than the imaginings. I remember the sound of the huge chain as it whirred around its sprockets. Once I was initiated, I rode this thing every chance I got. It was only 25 cents back then. I have actually seen this old veteran out here a couple of times in recent years, but it was indifferently painted a solid white and was quite battered and bruised from all of the decades of use.
