Review of Mission: Space (Green) @ EPCOT
2 Rating Posted by: Pete C on 6/7/2006 9:37:00 PM
For those that dont know, Green Team is the new version of Mission: SPACE that does not have any spinning of the centrifuge. The ride profile has been updated with more movement of the capsules to simulate g-forces without the spinning. The result is a pretty good facsimile of the real deal, which is now called the Orange Team version. While this version of the ride is a lot less intense, if not intense at all, it is still a fun ride. I went on it with my friend who would never have been able to ride the Orange Team version due to motion sickness problems. She was thrilled with the Green version, and was wondering how they simulated takeoff if the ride wasnt spinning. So, it seems they have succeeded in what they set out to do here. The ride does make you feel like you are taking off, and during the ride you are treated to some slightly different sensations than the original ride. The ride video is exactly the same on both versions, which I think is a great video to begin with. All of the people getting off the ride seemed happy with this version, and I heard some say they wanted to try the more intense version...which could cause a problem with some not realizing just how intense that version is. While I loved riding the original version last year, the after effect was not one that I cared to experience again. I felt a bit disoriented for a few hours. With this version, I know at least I can experience the ride if I am not up for the Orange version. Thrill seekers will probably not be overjoyed with this new incarnation, but at least now everyone should be able to enjoy this attraction which was quickly becoming the most notorious ride at Walt Disney World. Mission: Accomplished.

I was wondering why they put two Mission: Space links on this site. I had no idea Disney did this. I like the original alot, but Ill have to check this version out.

Is the original version the Orange Team version or did they completely rebuild the original so that it wasnt as intense? I read an article about this but I didnt quite understand.

I didnt even know they opened the updated Mission: Space rides yet.

No only one park of the building was set aside for the milder version. there is still another section of the building running the original.

They use to have the red and blue sections. I guess they turned them orange and green now.

You just get a ticket, Orange or Green when you enter the ride. Orange is the EXACT same ride as before...nothing more, nothing less. Green is a non-spinning version that offers a tamer ride experience. There is nothing in the building that looks Green or Orange yet, but I heard they might do something about that in the future. Right now 2 of the centrifuges are running the Orange ride profile, and 2 the Green profile.

I find it hard to believe that the ride is on the same level you put the original version (orange now, I believe) - is this more a vote of how good the ride itself is, or a vote in favor of the decision to offer a tamed-down version of MS?

I am struggling with rating this ride. I just came back from my recent rollercoaster trip and decided to adjust several of my reviews. I am actually cleaning house on a lot of my reviews now because I think people on this site tend to give out high ratings too easily. Anyway, I am giving this ride a 8 for now. The original, while I loved the intensity, made me queasy due to the spinning. I dont want to ride it again. This verion is not as fun, but I did enjoy it. I think it does what it was set out to do...offer a tamed down version of a more intense ride that you can still experience if you want to.

I rode the Orange version when it was the only version still there back in 2005 (making the dumb mistake of riding it twice with my brothers and sister), and while I wasnt nauseous, I ached all over. Next trip to EPCOT, Ill have to try the new Green version.
