Review of Halfpipe @ Six Flags Elitch Gardens

I think this is the best ride in the park. Picture the Superman at SFMM, with a teacup-style ride on it instead of fixed seats. The ride makes about 5 back & forth runs on a short, steep, U-shaped vertical track, with a kick given to it on every pass until the brakes kick in. Riders face outward and are spun. (I cant tell if the spinning is driven mechanically, or happens just due to inherent imbalances in weight.) Its not so much a thrill ride as experiential, and the experience is great. The tracks are smooth, the ride is high, theres a lot of airtime, and the view over the Denver is gorgeous with lots of it (the river, the old transportion museum which is now REI, the trains at Union Station, downtown, Longs Peak...). The best part? Going up to the tippy-top of the track, and *almost* hitting the bumpers at the end. Technically one could call it a roller coaster, but its so different than any other `coaster that such a comparison is too simple.
