Review of Loch Ness Monster @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg

BGW is blessed with having perhaps the two greatest old Arrow coasters ever made, Big Bad Wolf and the one this review is written about, Loch Ness Monster. The ride's queue is fairly well themed, mostly relating to diving in Loch Ness in something like a bathosphere. The trains are your standard old Arrow looper, though they seemed more comfortable to me than the trains for Demon @ SFGAm or Viper @ SFMM. One nice thing in the station are the historical fact signs about the coaster throughout the building. The 1st hill is quite tall, and provides a great view of Alpengeist's cobra roll on the way up. The drop is full of airtime, even with the OTSRs, and the 2nd drop into the loop also has some nice air. The 1st loop is tight and pretty intense, as is often the case on Arrow's old loopers, but it was thankfully much smoother than the likes of Demon or Viper. In fact, the whole ride was almost (almost ) as smooth as some of B&Ms older models, making it unlike any other Arrow looper I have been on. Moving on with the ride, the helix in the tunnel was very cool, and led directly into the 2nd lift hill. After the short lift, there's another drop down to the river. This one leads right into the 2nd loop, which was about even with the first in terms of intensity. In the end, a great quality, and a good ride for children ready to try out their first larger coaster/looper. Like BBW, LNM is deserving of its fame, and while it is a bit of a disappointment that it is rarely run so that trains go through the loops at the same time, the interlocking loops still have a cool and unique effect. Great fun from start to finish is what this coaster is all about.
