Review of Tower of Terror @ Disney-MGM Studios

I have never been on a ride that is this scary, Ill just say that up front. The theming is top notch, it is a true Disney classic. I was surprised that mor of the line didnt take place inside, most of it took place in the deserted gardens. The gardens were very well done, they looked unkept and mysterious and set a good atmosphere for the upcoming ride. The line enters the lobby, which hasnt been visited in years. This is where I think there could haave been another room, but no matter. From the lobby comes the Library, where the pre-show takes place.I thought the pre-show was excellent. The library scene really put my nerves on high. The set-up of one small tv in the corner of a dark room made the situation seem extremely real, almost like you had stumbled upon this hotel by yourself. Once in the boiler room, I was scared out of my mind. As some of you know, Im afraid of heights, so drop rides really make me nervous. I dont ride S&S towers because I dont like how open they are, but I felt the enclosed shaft would help because I really like the free-fall sensation. Once we were all loaded into our car, we began our quick ascent to the first scene. I thought the ghost scene was good, but not as good as the next floor. On the next floor the car comes out of the shaft and goes through a Twilight Zone scene with great special effects. Once we got into the next shaft I knew there was only one thing left to do. I cant remember if we dropped or launched first, because the rest of the ride was just a blur. What makes this ride so scary is the random ride sequence. I really under-estimated how scary random drops and launches could get. The heights werent the scary part of this ride for me at all. There was no way to prepare yourself for what was coming next, when a drop is expected a launch would come out of nowhere. The directional changes of this monster were insane, and proved great airtime. It felt like I dropped up and down that shaft 20 times before we finally stopped. I really cant stress how intense the random ride sequence was and how much it added to the ride. I give this ride a 10, I am proud of Disney for having the guts to build an extreme thrill ride, and I am even prouder of Disney for having the nerve to make it even scarier instead of taming it down. Nice job Disney, I dont think I have ever gotten that many moments of extreme airtime on ANY ride.

Fantastic review. lots of details. If I had never been on the ride I woudl have an idea of what to expact but you didnt say to much so that I didn;t feel I needed to ride it. I could see how with a fear of hiehgt this ride might be terafying.

Usually my fear of heights keeps me from riding drop rides, but on ToT it just made the anticipation worse before the ride. When it came down to it, the scary part of the ride was how relentless and random it was, it was one of the most thrilling rides Ive ever been on.

No, Im just happy that Disney has the balls to come out with a hardcore thrill ride and then make it worse instead of taming it down.
