Review of SWAT @ Six Flags Astroworld

SWAT was one of the rides I was most anticipating during my visit to Astroworld. It was having technical difficulties all day long and I thought I was going to miss it, but they did get it up and running for the last couple hours. A lot of people can be seated on either side of the fly swatter contraption, and we all got into our seats and had the over-the-shoulder restraints lowered. Then the lap bars came down. These were some of the most unusual things ever. They continued to get more and more snug with every bit of room that you gave them. That means that every time you inhaled they came down some more. In other words, they were very tight. At least we knew we were secure. As soon as the ride started, though, and we went over the top into the upside down position, they loosened up a bit with a little click that made you think they might come undone all together. A little freaky, but that definitely made it more comfortable. As for the ride itself, it was very fun. We did three complete inversions in one direction, then paused, and did three inversions in the opposite direction. Im not exactly sure why Im not giving this ride a 10, as I usually do for these giant loop-de-loop rides. Maybe its just that Ive ridden so many different kinds that this one didnt seem quite as unique as I might have expected, and the inversions were done reasonably quickly and smoothly so you dont feel that blood rush to your head characteristic of so many other ones (such as the Looping Starship on the other side of the park). Wierd thing is, I really like that feeling, so I missed it here. Regardless, SWAT is highly recommended. Astroworld itself is highly recommended. It seems to have one of the worst reputations of a Six Flags park, though I found the collection of rides unique and entertaining, the theming throughout was better than most other Six Flags parks Ive visited, and I had an overall great time. It will be sad to see the park go.

I also niticed form pics that the themeing seemed better at this park them most. I think a little of this has to do with the fact it opened as a theme park. It really is a shame that they would dump this park.
