Review of Batman The Ride @ Six Flags Great Adventure

After so many years, Batman: The Ride is still one of the more intense roller coaster experiences out there. Its compact layout and lack of trims allows it to reach some very high G’s throughout its entirety. For me, what makes-or-brakes a coaster is its first drop. If the first drop is very dull, you’ll probably lose me for the rest of the ride. Batman’s swooping first drop amazes me every time. You feel the restraints pressing against your chest and your head being stuck to the back of your seat. This sensation continues during the ride’s tight first loop, always-pleasant zero-g roll, and another loop. In that short time span you may even fell your eyesight weaken and get blurry as blood floods from your head. From then on you have to endure some of the most intense helices and turns ever devised. The best part of the tangled mess found at the latter end of the ride is that hidden somewhere in that shrewdly twisted metal of sharply-banked turns are some corkscrews that hurl you around with no mercy. You are only given a second to brace yourself before you flip over for the first time because it rushes at you with no notice. You try to get ready, but it’s to no avail. Just when you think you survived one corkscrew and are ready for the ride to come to an end, another one comes right at you and takes your breath away once again. After the non-stop twisting, and turning, and flipping the train comes to a quick stop. You fiddle with your restraints, unbuckle your seatbelt, and take pride in the fact that you conquered this behemoth. You realize that over the course of time, some bigger and faster rides have been made, but you don’t care. You know that this still is one crazy ride and that you were able to endure its ceaseless fury. You can catch your breath and finally make out where you are for the first time in a minute. You weigh the pros and cons and realize that the only negative is that it’s over before it starts. For some of the meek that may be seen as a plus, but deep down they vie for more. After all of the years of operation, Batman: The Ride still captures and mesmerizes the Gotham City skyline.
