Review of Kumba @ Busch Gardens Tampa

Well, the last time I was at BGT [in 1998], this puppy got a 9.5 rating from me. I was glad to go back this year and ride it again, even though I assumed it wouldnt be quite as awesome as before. The first thing I noticed is that Kumba really, REALLY needs a paintjob. The blue paint is just dying, especially on the rails, where its all rust colour now, and it creates just a terrible image of poor maintenance. The ride itself has a great layout, which is almost lost on B&M these days, as they seem to be content churning out rides with the same two or three elements. The ride is FAST, and not overly rough. It launches through the elements, just flying along the track. The cobra roll is the only real source of pain I felt, as its taken at seemingly blistering speed, and the inversion itself really isnt all that big. So, small, tight inversion taken at fast speeds = BAD FOR HEAD. The rest of the ride was running fairly smooth, though I caught a bit of banging on the drop off the mid-course brakes [which were on hard, but not hard enough to stop the momentum of the rest of the ride]. This ride was still very good, although it has lost some of its luster from the last time I rode it. I give it more than an 8, but not enough to warrant a 9, so it stays at 8. Still a great ride, especially for being 12 years old [!!!], and definately worth a spin or three. I enjoyed the front more than the back, though the back was a bit more intense.
