Review of Laser @ Dorney Park
0 Rating Posted by: EagleUSA on 8/28/2005 9:58:00 PM
I had no anticipation for this to be a good ride during my visit to Dorney Park. It was small, old, and looked bumpy. I have a huge problem with this ride: Assigned Seating. I was hoping for front row and with perfect luck I got it. My friend and I hopped in when the lady opperating the ride said she was moving us to row 6. It turns out two kids about 10 each had begged her for front row because they said they have been trying for an hour to get front row. You have got to be kidding me right. So my friend and I were angry about that. Well we went up the lift hill and then down the tiny drop. We hit the loops which hurt my stomach and twisted and turned until it was over. I still cannot believed we were moved. We went storming to guest relations but they just shrugged. So we went back in the park and still enjoyed our day. Laser is not fast, painful, and assigned seating is ridiculous. I will settle with a 6 to not mess up the ratings.

welcome to the site and dont worry about messing up the ratings. If the ride op ruined your experience by moving you and that made the ride less enjoyable, then factor it in. The only time you will get bashed by the intelligent critics is if you dont back up your rating with rationale.

Laser is kind of confusing for me. It has two very intense loops and some very fast helices, but when you come right down to it, it is an average coaster that so many over hype. Like you said in your Hydra review... would have much rather seen Hydra replace this one than than old Hercules. And as far as the bashing... the key word to larrygators explanation about not gettign bashed is "INTELLIGENT" critics... give a bad review / low rating, no matter how well deserved, to a "fanboys" favorite ride and prepare to suffer the "bashing". But then again, some of these "fanboys" of less than stellar intellect are known to rate rides that they have never even ridden poorly just so that their ratings will be pulled down so their "favorites" can look that much better... so I wouldnt worry too much about them.
Sorry... didnt mean to rant.

I used to think that Laser wasnt all that great, but after Coaster Madness this year I walked away with a new found respect for the ride and really found that I enjoy it a lot. Of course, a few solo front seat rides might do that to a person. Oh yeah, and there is the fact that this ride might be leaving the park soon.

... and you never know when. One day Hercules was up and running, next day it was closed and the announcement was made that it was scheduled for demolition. No advanced word or anything. Same could happen with Laser... runing one day, closed the next, gone in a few months.

I personally think Laser has a few more seasons left in it I really enjoyed it, even with the assigned seating. I didnt find it painful at all...at least no more painful than Steel Force or Thunderhawk. Laser actually realigned my back after the brutal beatings I got on those two... :o
