Review of The Beast @ Kings Island
1 Rating Posted by: gyk182 on 8/21/2005 1:11:00 PM
This ride deserves all the astounding reviews it gets. The middle seat is a wonderful ride, and really the only bad seat is the back, but everyone knows not to ever sit on the back of a woodie. The Beast is simply marvelous. You can ride it ten times in a row and never get bored with it. The layout is genius. The second lifthill is so unbelievable. Going down a hill at high speeds into a tunnel while the track is slanted is an incredible rush. Also, few people seem to get the the lift hill slows down at times and the cars "duel." While going down the first hill, chances are youre more concentrateed on the tunnel ahead of you then the train careening towards you, but on the trip back the station you see the train hurtling down the hill towards you quite well. If Im not mistaken, thats all timed because i rode it five times and each time the life slowed and gained speed until it finally sent us down the hill were we "dueled". It was amazing. Ride this at night... Its the best nightime coaster on earth... Period. best woodie... period. If you dont ride this, your trip to Kings Island was a waste.

Good review, gyk182, but if your policy is to skip the back seat of all wooden coasters, youre depriving yourself of some great rides.

Great review, gyk - now Im missing that coaster like crazy. Its wonderful, isnt it? And Im with Timberman - I love me a back seat when it comes to woodies - and the Beast is definitely no exception. Again, cool review.

i third that notion.....hop in the back, man! cmon now!
also i agree, beast is a nighttime coaster. on top of that i recommend riding in april or october for a cold night ecstatic shamanic journey into higher realms of being.

Heck yes, traver - one of my most memorable coaster experiences is that of riding the Beast in April - it wasnt at night, but nonetheless... it was the first public run of the Beast on its 10th anniversary season, and we made the first train out of the station (somehow outrunning about 200 or so other die-hards, who wanted it too). It was sleeting, snowing, ice all over the park and about 15-20 degrees out - why KI allowed the coaster to run is still a mystery to me. Anyhow, out we rode into the vicious tundra, and came back, well, changed people. It was a torturous, bitterly cold ride, but redeeming, almost on a rite-of-passage level.

I agree you have to ride the beast at night. My best time on it was at fear feast a couple of years ago. Its was cold and no one was at the park. Me and my wife rode it 6 times. Just a great coaster.

Oh trust me, I rode in the back seat... Haha! Im not saying I wouldnt do it again, all Im saying is that for a smooth ride, Id chose the middle first. However, I know as well as everyone else that sometimes a coaster simply has a bad day. I rode Son of Beast once in the middle and loved it, another time in the same seat and I felt like I dislodged my back! Theres a good chance I just chose a moment when the odds were against the back. I always say that if the line isnt long, you should ride a coaster front, back and middle because one seat alone wont always give you the true ride experience.

Im with the first three opinions, the true test of a woodie is from the back seat. Ride On. Although if I do ride SOB again it wont be in the back row.
