Review of Kingda Ka @ Six Flags Great Adventure
4 Rating Posted by: NJCroMag on 8/16/2005 1:53:00 PM
Okay, you may want to take my review with a grain of salt. I love coasters, but Im not one to debate the intricacies of them. Discuss with me the number of inversions, type of inversions, type of restraints, and Ill stare at you like youve got a third eye in the middle of your face. All I ask myself afterwards is: Did I have fun? And to what extent did I have fun?

Given that...this ride is a blast. The launch is unreal. The first second, youre flying. The next, youre feeling like you cant go any faster. The next, you *are* going faster.

In fact, the speed disorients you so much, youll be 3/4 of the way to the summit without realizing it. The train just barely gets through the top hat when you get to my favorite part of the ride.

Thats the split-second where the train is looking straight down from 456 feet up. The launch was reason enough to go on the ride, but this was icing on the cake.

Ive heard reviews on this board from people who say their view was obstructed by the supports. I guess it all depends on what youre focusing on, because all I saw was the ground looking as if it were a million miles away. The view was thrilling, to put it mildly.

I was too busy pulling my spleen from my throat to even notice the bunny hop. When this ride was over, I knew only one thing: I had to go on again. I got right back in line.

I rode with Kowrip (see his review), so I can second the notion that the 2nd row in car 1 offers a great view with none of the negatives that come from sitting in row 1.

What can I say, except:

Its the Kingda-Ka!
There is no higher!
Sucker rollercoasters
Will call it Sire!

hi. good review. perhaps because you lack coaster nerd vocabulary, your review was actually MORE evocative of what it felt like to ride kingda ka than any ive read thus far. additionally, very curious screen name.

Thats what I was thinking, traver - your viewpoint is free from comparisons and technical jargon, CroMag - thats what makes it so good. You rode it, you liked it, and thats what matters. Welcome to the site.

I grew up in New Jersey, and one of my favorite bands is a little-known act from NYC called the Cro-Mags. Ta-da! Thanks for both your comments, by the way.

i used to have age of quarrel back when i was a skateboard riding teen. cant say i go for hardcore nowadays like i did back then, but cro mags did rock as i remember it. i thought at first that you were classifying yourself and your jersey brethren as knuckle draggers.

NJCroMag, nice review. I have only a passing acquaintance with your namesake, but I appreciate the Run DMC reference.

Yep I also enjoyed the DMC reference and as a person who rarely drops coaster terms in my review I also thought it was good.

hrry: Im proud to be from NJ. Rest assured, the name is more a statement of me than my Jersey brethren. Timber and Coaster: Glad you liked the RUN-DMC reference. As I stood in line for the ride, I just kept singing that over and over again. People around me probably wanted my head.
