Review of Scrambler @ Six Flags New England

Scramblers are my self-proclaimed great-American flat. There’s just something so simple yet incredibly entertaining about them. Unfortunately, I typically skip these pleasant, little flats at large corporate parks in favor of more intense scream-machines, but having been to Six Flags New England a multitude of times, I eventually gave this Eli Bridge classic a ride after 3-4 visits without even giving it a thought. So was it worth the ride? Of course it was.

Located on the North End running parallel to the Cyclone’s massive, white support structure, the Scrambler seems to be very well maintained and sporting a fresh coat of paint like many of SFNE’s attractions this year. But other than that, it looks no different than the standard Eli Bridge scrambler. Shockingly, I’ve never ever seen any kind of line for this, despite SFNE’s weekend crowds and this attraction’s notoriously slow loading that plagues all scramblers.

Once the ride began, it turned out no different than any other scrambler I’ve been on. While I personally didn’t find the collision effect to be all that strong on this one (that’s probably not the ride’s fault more than the fact that I’m spoiled by Funtown’s, Canobie’s, and York’s great scramblers) compared to others, but the laterals were decent as usual. Ultimately, I found this one’s top speed to be pretty pedestrian in my opinion along with its cycle, which lasted approximately 2 minutes or so. One final note, my operator this past weekend was great, as he was incredibly enthusiastic and asked a creative and puzzling riddle following each ride. Great job!

The Scrambler is a fun flat that often gets overshadowed by bigger, more thrilling attractions, but as with others, this one provides an enjoyable experience from start to finish that never ceases to please me. All in all, this one turns out to be merely average in comparison to other scramblers I’ve been on. During a visit to SFNE, the Scrambler is a nice flat to hit, but if pressed for time it definitely is passable for the park’s far better and more thrilling attractions.
