The Great Movie Ride along with the Backlot Tour were the two attractions that built Hollywood Studios into what it has become today. While once arguably the park’s most popular attraction, now more flashy attractions such as the Tower of Terror, Toy Story, and the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster have surpassed it in popularity. Nonetheless, the Great Movie Ride is still a pretty popular attraction, but I’m personally not the biggest fan of it myself.
First and foremost, I can’t knock the ride’s appearance, a towering, dominating replica of a beautiful Chinese theater with attention paid to every single detail. Moving past that, another positive about the attraction is its large capacity, leading to lines being almost non-existent. In fact, I think the longest wait I’ve ever had for this attraction was 10 minutes.
As for the ride itself, I personally just find it outdated. Aside from the fact that attraction is very long (over 20 minutes!), I simply just haven’t seen almost any of the movies featured on the attraction, leading to me having little interest during the attraction. However, the scenes were well executed, especially the fake robbery which is by far the highlight of the attraction for me.
Despite the movie’s impressive arsenal of popular flicks, the Great Movie Ride just isn’t really all that enjoyable for me. Nonetheless, it’s still one of the park’s most unique attractions, and I’m sure anyone who enjoys movies will enjoy this attraction, though if pressed for time, this is skippable for far better attractions.
