Review of Millennium Force @ Cedar Point
0 Rating Posted by: SLFAKE on 6/25/2005 10:19:00 PM
There comes a point where more height and more speed does not really mean that much. I think Millennium Force has passed that. Its a fun coater, its impressive... but... I dont know... For its size, I was expecting to say "WOW!!!" and all I could manage was a simple "Wow!"

What is it about the ride you dont like? Is it because theres not enough air time, like Nitro, or is it because of the theming? SAY MORE!!! Please note that I havent ridden this yet (dont insult me). Ill ride it next June.

I wouldnt say he didnt like it, he did give it a 9, although it sounds like he expected to be giving it a 10.

Exactly, larrygator. Did I like it? Yeah, I liked it... but was not blown away by it.

If they give it a 9, I would say they liked the ride.

Well, what I meant to say was: why did SLFAKE take off a point? Maybe the theming or lack of any major airtime. Whats the reason?

Does there really have to be a reason. Just like in a few of your other posts, you want an exact reason why something was good or why it was bad (like say the first drop, overbanked turn, speed etc.) Maybe there wasnt an exact part of the ride. They said that it didnt blow them away. I think that is enough. Besides, a 9 is a great rating. They dont all have to be 10s, just because we are all supposed to "love all coasters". LOL

You know.... When you think about it, on a true 1-10 scale with 5 being the average, 9 is a spectacular rating. However, since no one really judges on that rating and uses 10 as the starting point... The 9 simply came because I liked it, but was not totally blown away. Good, but great, "Wow!" but now "WOW!!!!!", enjoyed it but enjoyed a few others better, gave it a 9 rather than a 10. Simple as that.

Thank you for the explanation SLFAKE. You are right about that whole people not going by the 1-10 thing. Ive been trying to do that lately, but it is tough when nobody else goes by it.

Its a damn shame that you had to not only defend the 9, but do it twice. I guess " but was not blown away by it." just isnt a good enough reason to shy away from a 10 anymore

Agreed Hercules... On the true 1-10 scale, it would be a bell curve... the vast majority would be 5s. A good many would be 3-4 and 6-7. Some would be 2s and 8s, a hand full would be 1s and 9s. And a very rare few would be 10s. However... Since most people look at any thing less than a 10 as an insult, doing it by the true 1-10 scale really throws off the ratings. As far as defending the 9 twice... give a rating any thing less than a 10 to someones favorite (or perceved favorite) and it is taken as an insult to that coaster (and perhaps a personal insult to them). Funny thing is, Ive seen some people rate coasters on other sites as something like a 9.85. How in the heck do you get that precise. "Had the height of the second drop been 4 inches more, it would have been perfect. Since it was not, I can only give this coaster a 9.85."
