Review of Exterminator, The @ Kennywood

This ride really blew me away. I dont know what I was expecting exactly...probably something along the lines of Space Mountain which has decent queue theming and then you go up the hill and there are some astronauts and then there are some planetary strobe lights going inside, but thats about it. Here, you wait outside for a little while, next to a big red building that looks like a factory which makes for great theming. Once youre inside, the theming doesnt stop and then youre on the ride, an indoor wild mouse coaster. Since wild mouse coasters are usually so quick and you spin on this, I wasnt expecting there to be a lot inside. As a dark ride fan, I hoped that there would be and there actually was. The theming was great inside the ride and very clear and I loved the ride itself! What a neat ride! My favorite at Kennywood for sure and one of my new favorites all together.

When I rode it, it was pitch dark inside...I saw none of this insane theming that youre talking about. Something must have been wrong with the ride when I tried it out...And I thought the theming of the outside of the building was mediocre, it looks like card-board with bricks painted on it.

Well, I mean, you see some exterminators and a rat towards the beginning, which I thought was cool. The sounds they have going as youre seeing this correspond and work up to your descend into the most exciting part of the ride. There are some parts where you are in relative darkness, but I liked that too. I found it to be very fun that I didnt know where I was going sometimes and I liked the way it moved. I know some people are saying that it was unpleasant for that reason, but although you get tossed around a little, I dont think its enough to make it a bad experience all around (unless you really cant deal with rides like this normally, indoors or outdoors). In the heart of the ride, they have a boiler room theme going and thats well lit enough for you to know that youre supposed to be there. I think thats cool. Thats part of what I liked so much about it. As for the outside of the ride, I think you are being too critical. Its the ride inside that really counts and when you look at this building, I think you get the basic idea of what its supposed to be. Im glad they spent more time and money on the ride than on the exterior design of the building personally.

I really dont mind spinning in complete darkness, heck DarKastle does it twice and I loved it. It just seemed like the entire ride was the car just being launched around corners in complete and utter darkness. I have heard from at least one other person of effects not working, so maybe I just caught the ride at a bad time. I didnt see any boiler room The only theming I saw was an exterminator at the very beginning which sprayed steam over the car....nothing very memorable. I think for a small park with limited space, this ride was a waste, but of course this is just my opinion

Fair enough. If you couldnt see the boiler room theming, perhaps there was something wrong, because it was there. Maybe something wasnt working...maybe it wasnt there yet. I dont know. But if it wasnt there, I can understand you not understanding my reasons for thinking the ride was so cool. As for you going on DarKastle, I am extremely jealous. I hit up BGW for the first time a year ago and missed out on it. It sounds really good. Maybe someday well go back. I had a great time in Virginia. What a fun state.

I think for a park this size it is a perfect use of space. It is unique and can operate easily in adverse weather. Though they wont operate this in lightning either.
