Review of Big Dipper @ Geauga Lake

Well, I had to ride the oldest coaster in the park. Definitely a classic. It is not the tallest nor the fastest, but it gives you some very nice thrills with the airtime. My only complaint on this ride is the constant slamming of your legs into the lap bar. Maybe I had it down too far or something. All in all, this ride is worth riding, especially if you love the classic woodie feel.

You would definately not be a fan of the Phoenix if the leg banging bothered you some on this. This is an ACE coaster classic, which means to keep its status it must have seats and lap bars like it currently has.

For me, the lap bars add to the great, out of contol experience. I would not change the trains this thing is running for anything...and it was much more outta control before Cedar Fair installed the seat belts.

The slamming means you have freedom, and theres a ton of airtime. I personally love this part of the ride.

thanks I joined like two days after you said I could be your guest at IB. If they installed the seat belts they will lose there status wont they?

Yes, there are all sorts of things to qualify a coaster as a classic. It cant have seat belts or seat dividers, no individual lap bars, and things like no assigned seating all contribute. There are like five or six guidelines total, and adding seat belts would cause it to lose its status (though we are talking Cedar Fair here).

Funny that SF was able to keep it a coaster classic, yet most peoples dream company CF removed it from that list.

RCDB still lists it as an ACE classic, maybe theyre still classifying it as one?

It still is, we were just talking about what if they add seatbelts and dumped the lapbars that Godsentone complained about.

well it has seatblets now and the ride is nowhere close to being comparable to Phoenix now

Its still very enjoyable, but it makes me sad when I see a ride that has operated for 80 years with a single lap bar restraint recieve seatbelts.

people and frivolous lawsuits will take the fun right out of this country. Well that and religious fanatics.
