Review of Riverview Carousel @ Six Flags Over Georgia
-4 Rating Posted by: bunkleg on 4/9/2005 11:32:00 PM
The Riverview Carousel is a fancy name for a Marry-Go-Round. Its for the kids, I guess Six Flags just had to put it there.

This is one of the worst statments I have ever read. of corse its another name for a MArry-go-round. well gess what you know the slang for the ride Carousel is the corect name. if you go to England its called a Round-A-Bout. Carousels are a staple of an amusment park and you will find no well to do, respectible one without a Carousel.

I guess this will be just completely lost on you bunk, but that isnt just a fancy name, or something that SF just had to put there - its actually a tribute to the now long-gone Riverview Park, which was in Chicago, that the carousel came from. Riverview was one of the greatest coaster parks of all time, and practically has legendary status nowadays. Amusement park history lesson over with...

Heres what I know, a lot of which was in the video I shared recently: The Carousel is a national historical landmark, and as adriahna said, it comes from the famed Riverview Park in Chicago (long gone now ). The carousel was PTC 17 and Lee Zoller was the fella who did the carving, and it cost about $20,000 initially, or something around there. When Riverview closed, a man by the name of Jerry (I cant remenber the last name but he was in management at the park) got Six Flags to buy it and restored in in 1972. The ride is one of only three five-abreast carousels in the world, and features what was some really risque stuff back in the day. There are 70 horses and four lovers chariots, and the only thing that keeps the carousel from being a truly "premier" model is that SF neglects in a bit Other than that, the figurines and cherubic carvings could be among the best, but sadly, it falls a bit short
