Review of Dollywood Express @ Dollywood
2 Rating Posted by: I_E_G on 12/17/2004 12:20:00 AM
Lord, Im an employee at Dollywood, and you two make me feel like a guest. I would say it is the top train ride in the nation, the trains have a nice history, which the conductor tells during the ride. For tourists that are eager to see the mountains, its spectacular. I grew up in the mountains, but alot of people find it amazing. The crew is fantastic, all they conductors are extremely nice people, and Im sure every rider can tell that, and Christmas time enhances the ride 100% for me. If your looking for thrills this definantly isnt the ride for you, but it does have about everything else you could ask for in a ride, so even though its not my favorite ride in the park, theres no way I could give it less.

Good review, what do they do extra round this time of year? I havent been to the park in December

Oh, and the crew is quite nice, from the storyteller to the conductor, they were nice, freindly, and open to conversation (unlike other parks)

The reason the ride is better at Christmas, especially night rides, you travel through the park, and get to see a good amount of the lights, and pass the Olde World Christmas pyramid, and the path through the Smokies that the train travels up is decorated quite nicely. They have alot of the trees decorated, the cabins and outhouses you pass, and its hard to believe, but the Christmas season has all of us in a good mood, and the train guys are no exception, theyre exceptionally fun. Also, I dont know who all has rode the train, but if youve ever seen "Dollywoods resident magician", David Tallent at the end of the ride, hes the worst part of it, and during the Christmas season, hes gone to make way for Tinker the talking Christmas tree.

Yep, they time the trains just perfectly so that you are there when his shows start (or so it seemed). Yea, I gotta admit, he wasnt the best Ive seen. Thanks for the Christmas summary, do they do anything back in the forrest, well past Thunderhead where the "scenes" where?

Do you think that I should upload some photos from the old town scenes? I wasnt sure if that would "give the fun away" or anything, since otherwise, you do need to ride the train to see them.

They need to do some work on those cabins along the track...the one up by the upper switch has almost collapsed, and the roof has fallen in on the stables next to "Ma Bolins cabin" I think theyve been there since the Goldrush Junction/Rebel Railroad days. They add to the wilderness feel of the ride.

You guyz dont like David Talent? The Village area wouldnt be complete without his cheesy antics!

I have a correction, I though David Tallent was gone, but hes not, hes just there on select days during the winter. Im sorry, I dont really like him, but I suppose if your seeing him for the first time, he wouldnt seem so corny. And no, they dont really do anything specail out past Thunderhead, its just decorated nice. The only thing they really do specail for us is play Dollys version of Rudolph the Red-noised Reindeer.

Right on Dukeis, they could use some work, but then again, they could just pass it off as "rustic" LOL

No, I didnt find him to be great, kind of average if you ask me
