Review of Revenge of the Mummy @ Universal Studios Florida

What was Univeral thinking when they replaced Kongfrontation with this garbage? Its an awful ride! The ride starts out, and the first thing I though was that the car was bumpy for such a new ride. Then you entered the first scene where the mummy jumps out and sucks someones soul out of them, which was actually very good with really good animatronics for Universals standards, and then you moved to the second scene which had the mummys face at the end of the room on a screen. He said you could join him and get treasure, and the room lights up and you see a bunch of gold stuff. And then non moveing mummys pop up and just stand there, while fire explodes around them, and your car speeds up and outruns a wall that is lowering in front of you. From this point on, the ride falls apart. If it continued in the style of the first 2 rooms, it would have been a great ride, but... The next room you stopped in a dead end. Scarab beetles started pouring out of a hole in the wall and all over the walls (which were really screens). My question is why did they stop there? It would be a perfect spot to put air hoses under the seats to tickle your legs and on the headrests to go on your head so it would feel like the scarabs were crawling all over you, but there was nothing. Then the car starts moving backwards. At first I though that this was going to be great. A backwards roller coaster, and then once out of the scarab room, you stop, and turn around while you see glowing stuff on the wall in front of you. You then enter an inclined tunnel where you go about halfway up at a slow speed while the mummy is talking in front of you, and then you speed up through his mouth and into the first coaster portion. While you were speeding around in the very short coaster part, you saw glow in the dark mummys flashing by you which reminded me of rockin roller coaster. The coaster didnt even have any good stuff in it. No loops. No drops. Only one little spot of air time. And that was it. You entered a station area that could easily be recoginized as fake, where you hear someone with a high pitched voice telling you that the ride is over. You see their shadow behind a window, and then you see the mummys shadow killing the person, and then the mummy breaks the glass and you see another animatronic that wasnt as good as the first mummy. The ceiling catches on fire, and you go down a little hill through some smoke, and then you go into a room where you see Brendon Fraiser on a screen where he is yelling about how he wants a cup of coffey. And then the ride is over. I want to know who came up with that ending. It makes no sense what so ever, and like this years Bill and Ted show, the ride doesnt really have a conclusion. It just ends. Wheres the part where you defeat the evil mummy? Its not there. And the story is terrible too. No one has a clue whats going on the first time they ride through. It took 3 rides around for me to figure it out. The ride needs a preshow that tells you exactly whats going on that you have to watch before you get on the ride. And what about all that stuff that Universal said the ride would have before it opened? Wheres the mummy that jumps on your roller coaster car? From a ride from Universal that competes with Disney and is capable of making rides like Spiderman, they should be ashamed for making this garbage. I have a feeling that Disneys new themed Roller coaster is going to win this round of rides in the Disney/Universal competition.

I do agree that a pre-show would certainly help the ride for those who did not live and breathe every PR Release and every step of ROTMs being built

Boy do I have some things to say....

Now I know that what you think about the ride is your opinion, but some things you stated in there are wrong.

That "glowing" stuff in front of you in the turnstyle was Imhotep himself. I thought it was cool how he follows you around while you are turning to face the launch. Another thing is you dont go halfway up the hill and then launch, you go up...barely a third (if that) of the way up before you launch.

"Only one little spot of air time." Your kidding right? How tight were those restraints? There are 3 spots of airtime. 2 which give great ejector air, first being at the top of the launch, the 2nd being in the first coaster portion of the ride. The 3rd is more floater, and happens as you drop out of the fake station.

"another animatronic that wasnt as good as the first mummy." Now I agree it wasnt as good as the first, since the first one was just incredible, but what exactly did it do for you? Like how was it moving....

"No one has a clue whats going on the first time they ride through." Thats where the video comes in that you should watc while waiting inline. I could understand missing it when there is no line, using the express passes, or when using the single rider line. If you dont ever watch it, you have no clue what its about. One thing that you obviously did not see is in that video Brendon Frasiers secretary (whatever you call him) give him coffee...only its empty. Then the guy goes on about the curse and that stuff...although I do agree about the preshow thing.

"Wheres the mummy that jumps on your roller coaster car?" Although I did see this as a rumor, I have yet to see where Universal actually says a mummy will jump on the car. Someone else told me this, but failed to come up with some proof. Lets see what you can do....

"they should be ashamed for making this garbage." Well, thats only your opinion...of which I disagree with.

Yup, doing the single rider line or the express passes means no movie for you.
