Review of Rampage @ Visionlands Magic Adventure Theme Park
4 Rating Posted by: BobFunland on 10/23/2004 3:12:00 PM
Ill preface this one by starting out with the concept of basically driving the two hours over to Visionland with the main objective being to get as many rides on Rampage as possible. Well, I attained four, and could have got more, but quite frankly, the park bored me quickly and I was gone after 2.5 hours. My first ride was the first ride of the evening. I took the back row, totally unkowing of what this coaster did to you because it was pitch black in what seemed to be a hilly, green area that provided only a mere silhouette of the layout, with few details visible. Anyway, after leaving the station, we began to climb up the lift, and you could see the entire park, which was well-lit, but still not much of Rampage. When we reached the summit, the train dipped a bit into a wide turn banked to the left, and when we hit the precipice, the train snapped me wonderfully. Down I went, screaming (not literaly) into a dark, cavernous (with wood and trees all aroung) plunge at more than 55 mph. The back seat provided the best air on the first drop. Then we bent over to the left, banked severely and up a nice airtime hill, with the best air towards the front, but some nice ejector in the back. The train then hit another hill, this time turning around and back through a twisted double out-n-back layout. The layout was impressive, as the coaster itself was towering and hidden at the same time. Many part of this ride could not be seen from the rest of the park (at night anyway), and there were airtime-filled (ejector and floater at points) suprises on pretty much every hill. The final come-back after heading away from the station the third time (including the lift) provided some wicked laterals in the turnaround, as did many of the banked curves, which just werent smoothly laid-out, yet the ride itself was very smooth for a woodie. This coaster had a lot of everything: speed, twists, air, laterals... and beauty from what I could see. The headchoppers were nice, but not the best as they are usually better at night anyways. The final brake run was an interesting experience, as the front car actually lifts off the tracks, and falls back into place once the brakes are released. After the brake run, the train goes through a nice dip with an intense and tight turn back to the station, and ends with a sharp decline into the station, which was quite a nice, jolting suprise after everyone would have thought that the ride was over. In the end, four rides, in the back, in row 2, in the front row and than in the third car. All in all, this is the better of the two CCII coasters that I have been on, and it did something that Hurricane at the Myrtle Beach Pavillion couldnt do, and that is slip into my Top 10, replacing the Giant Dipper at Belmont Park for now

Thanks Scott, I really enjoyed the coaster, but maybe thats because Visionland didnt have much more going on for me that night. It was really pitch black back there at night, and after I got home I checked out some aerial pictures just to see what it really looked like, it is a pretty impressive timber jungle.

Thanks again
