 Review of Thunderhead @ Dollywood
2 Rating Posted by: coasterkid on 8/17/2004 2:18:00 AM
Okay since no one has compared the two, I will be the first to compare Ozark Wildcat, and this years Thunderhead. Thunderhead is twenty feet taller, 10 m.p.h. faster, and 500 ft longer. So it should be the badder of the two, well it isnt. The first drop is awesome and the speed is excelent, as you fly into the demented s turn, giving you a good shot of air, and in my opinion the best moment of airtime in the ride. I counted 8 moments of airtime on this beast, none of which are overly forceful. Ozark Wildcat also has 8 moments of airtime but are substantially more forceful. The turns on thunderhead are fascinating to look at and the trains fly through them with great ease, but yet again they are not as forceful as Ozark Wildcat. The layout is arguably the greastest layout on a wooden coaster, to date. It is turn after turn and it drops, dives and screams everywhere, but it still isnt as forcefull. It is being called the best coaster in existance by many, and my thinking is, apperently theses people havent ridden many coasters because Thunderheads little, older sister is much better. But this is still a fair attempt

Thunderhead was an icredible wooden coaster- the airtime was numerous, and I could feel my feet coming off of the ground (but didnt count...) a lot, so if that isnt forceful airtime, I dont know what it. It was the best woodie for airtime that Ive ever ridden, and I agree that the layout is superb. Especially the high-speed turn atop of the first hill (not including the lift of course), where the side rails become head choppers.

To put it simply, there are much better wooden coasters out there with much better airtime.

These reviews are for the Thunderhead, not the Ozark Wildcat!!!!!!!!!! . But I have to agree that the Ozark Wildcat is pretty good. Almost like the Thunderheads brother!

when i rode ozark wildcat it was sort of short , thunderhead IMO is so much better , plus ozark wildcat had no trees around it

I always said scenery doesnt make the ride, but for the Thunderhead I have to change. Take for instance if you took it and put it in a Six Flags then it wouldnt be as cool of a ride. Thunderhead is made for the area which it occupies. DOLLYWOOD IS AWESOME!!!!
battleflag on 10/13/2004 3:30:30 AM said:
yea but all the trees around thunderhead are what makes half the ride , how dare you even mention six flags while were talking about dollywood and thunderhead LOL
coasterSS on 10/23/2004 3:49:50 PM said:
Well, sorry, I had to give an example, Six Flags is all I could think of at the time. And why did you not give it a 10 coasterkid?

^ He said because he liked Ozarka Wildcat better, thats why. Doesnt mean that you cant give two 10s, but then again, I am very reservedin giving 10s (only five so far)

I dont think that Thunderhead deserves a 10, it just was not ten worthy in my mind. I love Ozark Wildcat, one of my top ten, and I thought that Thunderhead would be bigger faster and better but it wasnt.
BobFunland on 11/30/2004 5:50:18 PM said:
Thunderhead is bigger and faster, even GCIs website proclaims it as the bigger and better sister to the Ozarka Wildcat, but whether or not it is better is up to you.

Yeah, I was just a little stressed that afternoon. My Biology teacher and I locked horns that day, so I respect your rating coasterkid!

What is the big deal with giving a 9 to thunderhead? I mean I said I liked Ozark Wildcat better, which I did, but I didnt low ball thunderhead....

Seriously guys, chill out. We all have different opinions and his is that it was overrated. Deal with it.
BobFunland on 12/12/2004 8:22:40 PM said:
Actually, if you look back, I said that it was his opinion, I just pointed out that Thunderhead was indeed bigger and faster, but the better part was up to him. Besides, its a 9, and its not like the guy who said "Best in wood..."

He didnt say that it was overrated either, he said it was very good, just not quite as good as the Ozark Wildcat.

Who said I was just talking about you?

Also, Im just assuming he thought it was overrated from his review and comments.

Actually I do think it is overrated, but I hadnt said it until now , it is a great ride just not in my top ten.
Sephiroth7 on 4/25/2005 8:03:57 PM said:
Damn....I remember when it took a 1 to start a dumb discussion trying to "convince the review" its the best ride ever made and it deserves an automatic 10. Now, that has changed to a 9. Jeez....lay off guy.
BobFunland on 4/26/2005 2:51:19 PM said:
Or better yet when we have put the debate to rest someone comes back and rejeuvenates it

Well Ive been gone for a while....so its all new to me .

Dont worry, its all good Seph

At least he didnt continue the new and unwanted tradition of starting an Im back thread in the FoN.

Excellent point about the silliness of arguing a 9 rating when the reviewer provided plenty of justification. Some people just got a little too infatuated with Thunderhead (ahem, BobFunland)
BobFunland on 4/26/2005 7:04:49 PM said:
LOL I only had one post of true "infatuation" though, I gave it a rest. Also, you seem to be forgetting this
larrygator on 4/27/2005 12:01:39 AM said:
I am ignoring all "Im back" posts for now on, I did miss that one from Seph. I must have ignored it
