Review of Disaster Transport @ Cedar Point
-2 Rating Posted by: firstdrop2 on 6/13/2004 12:06:00 PM
This ride IS a disaster! I really expexted more from world class Cedar Point. The best part is actually waiting in line for it, with some coll 3-D pictures and theming. We bought the 3-D glasses, and also expected to use them on the ride, but they dont do ANYTHING. The ride is short, boring with painfully small cars. There is a reason this thing is in a BOX. THEY DONT WANT ANYBODY TO SEE HOW HORRIFICALLY BAD IT IS. CP should can this thing and put in a new coaster or something like STAR TOURS. That would be sweet. I hope that is there next project, because DISTASTER stands out at CP like a super-sheap carnival ride among the best state-of-the-art rides on earth. SKIP IT

I wish the park could revamp it again - but this time actually using bobsled trains like the type parks used in the old days (actual trains with attached, individual cars) - at least it would be a more unique ride that way. The way it stands today is a mess, and its a real shame.

I think the review was a little harsh. I agree that its not an amazing well themed ride, but I think its very unique and I really enjoyed it. Its really not that bad, I mean its a dark ride, not a world class rollercoaster.

I agree with katydid. You have to give it some slack. It wasnt meant to break any records, have Disney-style theming or be really all that thrilling. Plus, you have to remember, this bobsled was actually built in the 80s, long before all the new advanced coasters we have today. All CP did was inclose in a few years later. Thats not going to change anything. In addition to that, bobsled coasters are really rare so Id try to enjoy it as best I could just on the basis that theyre found in very few other places and the fact that the style is unique.

I agree, MagnumMan - the bobsled element to the coaster is very cool. I rode it back in the 1990s, before the park enclosed it - and it was WAY cooler than it is now. At least then you could get a far better sense of the bobsled nature, by seeing the path ahead of you, realizing that theres no real "tracks", to speak of. Unfortunately, this unique sensation is almost completely lost when its made invisible - the ride just isnt as interesting. A real shame.

Very true. Ive been on La Vibora @ SFOT and the sensation was very exciting. When compared to Disaster Transport, its way more thrilling. I do like DT when the car dips into complete darkness (Thats always fun) but otherwise Id rather have my bobsled not inclosed.

It definitely makes all the difference - DT used to be really, really great. The only drawback? Waiting in line during a hot, sunny day in a parking lot - that I dont miss.
