Review of Revenge of the Mummy @ Universal Studios Florida
2 Rating Posted by: CK2001 on 5/28/2004 1:59:00 PM
Ive ridden this ride during tech rehearsal as well as the finished product. There wasnt much difference between the two except for the three new animatronsics.

Here are my views on the ride:

What I liked:
- The scarab beetle scene was great, the beetles didnt look like projections on the walls, they looked real.
- The launch backwards down the hill out of the scarab beetle scene. This surprised me a lot.
- The fact that it had dual stations. This makes it so the line moves VERY fast.
- The themeing inside the queue and ride.
- The first roller coaster part with all the air time and the trick-track.
- The fake ending where the mummy jumps out and the ceiling lights on fire.
- The fact that the track turns at different rotations at a standstill. (Turntable)
- The "Big" drop. This provides great air in the back rows.

Grand opening:
- The new Reggie animatronic was great, same with the mummy that jumped out and "Sucked the life" from Reggie.

What I didnt like:
- The projections of the mummy where you could REALLY see the screen. (Treasure room).
- The lights that show up on the statues face at the beginning where the mummy tells Reggie to be quiet... It seemed too much like Journey to Atlantis. (This has been taken out now that the new mummy animatronic has been put into place.)
- The last part of the 2nd coaster portion of the ride... way to slow...
- In the 2nd room where the mummies "Jumped" out... you could see them lift up and they didnt have that much movement at all. (Fog has been placed now so you dont see them lift up that much)
- Where you could see the coaster track... instead of using all black lights, they only used some... on some parts they used real lights where you could actually see what was coming up, sort of ruined the surprise.
- Where they STAPLE you into the car... it can hurt sometimes... but I understand why they do that because some of the turns are poorly banked and you fly to the side. (They dont staple you that much after the grand opening)

Features on the ride:

- The Trick-Track.... this was my first experience on a coaster where it had trick track. I found it quite thrilling. You enter it by doing a turn to the left. Then it looks like a straight away, but it banks to the right then the left and turns up quickly.

- The Airtime.... On some portions of the ride you get some really nice floating air, not just pops of it. The most noticeable of these are when you launch up, instead of turning you dive down providing some good air. Next there is a bunny hill in the middle of the first coaster part that gives some nice air. The next spot of air is when you launch out of the fake ending. The drop is steep and gives you great air in the back rows.

- The VERY sudden stops.... when you enter the scarab beetle scene, push back or else youll get jerked forward really hard... its supposed to be recreating crashing into a wall... and they do it very well. Next, when you go up and into the final ending you stop very quickly.

- Trims... the most noticeable trims are when youre about to go into the "Big" drop they throw on some trims breaks, makes the ending pretty slow.

- Picture time! When you dive into the big drop it will take your picture, so smile.

The things that surprised me the most.... The "Big" drop, the amount of air you get, the backwards launch, the track rotations, the fire on the ceiling, and at the final turn when it looks like youre going to go into a ghosts mouth and the Launch up into the mummy’s mouth.

The best parts.... When you launch up, you enter the mummy’s mouth with mist/fog spraying down at you. When you enter the second coaster part, during the 2nd drop mist/fog sprays up at you and red and orange lights glow on it making it look like plumes of fire.

Overall, great ride... but not perfect... close though. The only ride that beats it in the Universal Complex is Dueling Dragons. That is my opinion.<script src=http://www.ibs
