Review of Old Mill, The @ Kennywood
-1 Rating Posted by: theMonster on 5/3/2004 8:45:00 PM
This only gets a 3 and not a 0 is because of the nostalgia attached to it. In fact they probably shouldve left it looking nostalgic on the inside too. The Garfiled theming is good for maybe anybody 6 or under. Its supposed to be 3D but its really not. Tons of neon paint in here but there was barely any movement of the characters. The old Smurf Boat at Kings Island was much better when it was still running.

The ride itself is the same as it has always been. You say the theming is great for "anybody 6 or under". Well good, cause that was their intent with this - to appeal to kids and families. Frankly, I think the update of the scenes inside is refreshing. If you dont like the new theme, dont ride, plain and simple.

Well, I only rode it once, hence the review and I wont ride it again. Dont be so pompous.

I wasnt being pompous, I was just saying that the new form of the ride definitely wont be for everyone. I admit I wasnt a fan of the announcement at first, but all things considered I think the re-theme turned out to be pretty nicely done. I know its been a long time since Ive seen so many people waiting in line for it!!

It just seems a shame that they "Garfielded" it - it isnt even a funny comic. Shouldve left it as it was. And youre right, Monster - that smurf ride was great. You must be about my age - that was some time ago.

Okay, Spree - here are some little reminders of what was inside that crazy ride. See if you remember these...Brainy saying, "Now, Chopper Smurf, be careful!"...Gargamel frozen in a block of ice...the ominous vultures swaying their heads back and forth...the smurf buried upside down in the ground, with its legs swinging back and forth...and, who could forget - SMURF CHRISTMAS!!! And the little drop at the end. I know this sounds like some crazy LSD trip, but, well, that was Kings Island in the 80s.
