 Review of Haunted Mansion @ Knoebels

I know this 8 will be unpopular. I love the history of the ride, but the actual ride didnt do much for me. The truck did get me though, completely unexpected.

I think the old pretzel spook rides and other dark rides that I used to ride as a kid in Seaside Heights were much scarier. I never got goosebumps nor had the hair on my arms stand up at Knoebels.

Maybe everyone built this one up too much, however, all the other classics at Knoebels lived up to the hype.

Most of the characters could have been scarier versus funhouse looking. Its like they tried to combine a haunted mansion with a funhouse theme so I must subtract for the mish mosh of theming. The aliens at the end just seemed out of place.

EDIT: Upgraded rating from an 8 to a 10 after re-riding it on 9/19 with my seven year old neice. I was more aware of what to look for (and listen for) and didnt remember how close some of the props came to hitting you. I was soaking wet from the rain the first time I rode in April, so I must have been in a highly critical and tempermental mood.

You do have some very good points, larrygator - it does have more of a funhouse feel than traditional haunted house. The old Pretzels (Coneys Spook-a-Rama is a prime example) are way, way more frightening. This is a bit more corny. I was definitely scared as hell by the truck, but for all-around scariness, there are some better.

If youre into extremely scary rides and are rating this ride on its scare factor, I think its quite scary, but people have their own thoughts on what is scary and what isnt. I think, however, what know one can deny is its absolute charm and attention to detail, which make it a true classic.

no this 8 is not an unpopular ranking for two reasons. The first is that you actually rode the ride. The second is that the things you didnt like totally justify your review. i personally gave the ride a ten, but i also agree with your points. Super review keep up the good work this is what the site is supposed to be about.

Yup, excellent review. Like I say, the rating does not matter to me, so long as you have been on the ride and can back up your review, which you do.

On 9/25/04 I visited Knoebels and rode the Haunted House solo for the first time (my wife had some other plans that day so instead of sitting at home, I went to the park). I believe that was the scarriest ride that I have had in the Haunted Mansion. It because of a couple of things... 1) everytime I rode it before, I was actually more focused on my wife and did notice every little thing going on around me, 2) my wife always likes to get in the car first and sit on the right side... so the stunts and surprises on that side of the car I really got to experience this time, 3) riding through it alone... it seems a heck of a lot darker than when you are with someone.
