Review of Nitro @ Six Flags Great Adventure

Wow.....

All I can say is wow.

I went to SFGADV last week thinking Nitro would be in my top ten list, but not even come close to SROS at SFNE, or TTD. To make it short, Nitro is my new #1 coaster.

I waited a max of 10 minutes for this thing. The ride ops are unbelieveable.....cranking trains out like vending machines. I stayed in the same seat 5 times in a row, because when we got back to the station there wouldnt be any people. For that alone I started liking it better then SROS, since wait times up here at SFNE are absolutely brutal.

This is the smoothest ride I have ever been on, better than MF, better than SROS, better than anything. Intamin may rule the roost in terms of size, height, speed, etc, but I give huge props to B&M for making a coaster that rides smoother than my car. Despite remarks about slowness, I found the lift hill moved at a good pace. The view right is of the park, and the view left is of the coasters awesome first half. The drop is incredible, feeling a lot taller than the 215 feet advertised, the second hill begins with a violent ascent up to 189 feet, where you feel as if the train falls off the track at the peak in an interesting diving lean to the left, before rocketing down and up a huge third hill with great floater air. The hammerhead turn is great.....dropping you down towards yet another large hill.....then another tirning drop into an intense helix with great arm-chopper effect.

After the brake run, you get good air on a drop that keads into the bunnyhop finale each with great airtime. Then you get off and run back to the line for another dose. I had 22 shots, and I wanted more......lots more.

Overall this is simply a great ride. It is tall, fast, smooth, and has a layout that features drops rather than twists and turns. I am a drop fanatic, so I loved every second on it, and when it does twist and turn it does it with the best of them. Add the short wait, comfortable trains with minimalist restraints,a great riverside view seen only from the tops of the highest coasters, and one of the most striking color schemes anywhere, and you get a ride that you will never ever want to get off of.

SROS may get the Golden Ticket, but for me, if you want some really big hills, a shot of NITRO is just what the doctor should order.
