Review of Space Mountain @ Magic Kingdom

No big drops, no inversions and top speed 28 mph... so what! This is exhibit A in the power of good design. The indoor darkness + space effects, combined with the sudden dips, toilet-bowl spirals and sudden (and un-foreseeable) turns make this just a huge amount of fun. Maybe it just seemed this way in the dark, but it felt like SM was making 90 degree turns without slowing down a bit. I love a good hypercoaster as much as the next guy, but Space Mountain shows a coaster doesnt need mega-power to be great. [And btw: I was in Orlando in early September... ultimate non-crowds period for the parks there. Rode SM three times in a row in the middle of the day - no wait! Couldve done more. Same deal at Universal.]

Nice review - sounds like you got lucky with the crowds.

September is the way to go - the kiddies are all back at school but the weathers still summery.

I went in Feburuary and there was no line then either...Awesome review praxis!!! Couldnt have said it better myself! This coaster is so under-rated.

Great review, we do not see eye to eye on many things but you certainly hit the nail on the head with this one BRAVO!!

Thanks very much. Although I might apend one thing about the above review: May might be a better time to hit the Florida parks. I assume crowds are still low (school still in session), and September bears more weather risk.

I have been to WDW every month except August since 2000. My favorite month is October and my least favorites are June and July. September is great unless you are staring down the barrel of a hurricane. May for me has been hit or miss. But October has been very reliable since 2000.

We went in December 2005 two weeks before Christmas and were able to take in all of the Chrismas spirit without the AMAZINGLY large crowds.
