Review of Jumbo Jet @ Coney Island Rides
2 Rating Posted by: BrooklynRi on 1/24/2003 11:49:00 AM
In my opinion, Coney Islands worst days are behind it. Its worse for the wear, but things are looking up. This ride is a classic Shwarzkopf and, although the cars are a bit rattled and the landscape a bit bleak - the ride delivers. Fast with powerful forces throughoput - this is no kiddie coaster. Dont under-estimate the fun.

Is this ride still SBNO. I hope no, would love to get another Jumbo Jet on my track record, but alas it was not operational last season.

Not sure when you were last there, but it should open this Spring. This coming season is very "iffy" for Coney Island. Fot the first time in it 100+ year history, only one subway line will be running to Coney Island. This is actually a good thing as a new $250million subway & transportation terminal is being constructed as this is written Anticipated completion is 2004. FYI - the Parachute Jump has been dismantled for renovation as the city attempts to make it operational again!

I visited last July, and intend to visit again this summer. I am only in Philly, so it is a quick jaunt up the Turnpike. I had heard, and seen some photos, of the dismantling of the parachute jump. I think this is great news, it will be nice to see it operational again, though I kinda wish that were to be in its original form, though the Intamin system is much safer.

Its true - the Jumbo Jet is gone, and Ill always regret not having ridden it - just figured it would always be there (stupid me). Lets hope the Parachute Jump is restored in an appropriate way - well probably never be able to experience the giddy freefall sensation that our grandparents so enjoyed, but running is better than nothing, eh? And well see about the Stillwell subway station - I hope to God the city incorporates the original terra cotta motifs (BMT) - and boy, do I EVER miss Philips Candy Counter!!! Does anyone else remember this place, and the great egg creams and frozen bananas???
