Review of Jack Rabbit @ Kennywood

Old doesnt necessasarily mean good. This ride is slow, outdated, and boring. It barely does anything, actually. The only reason its famous other than because its old is the double dip. The air time you get here is overrated, too. You may lift a foot out of your seat, but its only a split second before you slam back down. And thats the only airtime you get on the whole ride. Meanwhile other coasters today are offering up to 6 seconds of airtime at one spot. Sorry, but I need more than a double dip to call a coaster "good."

Six seconds at one spot? If I remember my physics correctly that would require a 600 foot drop.

I love the Jack Rabbit. If you like classic woodies, this is a great one. The use of terrain is excellent. This is the only coaster I know of with a double dip drop. Sure its an old piece of coaster history but very well maintained and still packs a punch.

There are a couple coasters out there that technically have a double drop, including a fairly new woodie at SF St. Louis. One of my sons rode it (he has ridden the Jack Rabbit) and said if they didnt mention it you would have never known it. John Miller designed this one to perfection - it doesnt matter what seat you are in, youre airborne, and those great restraints let you enjoy every moment of it. The double drop looks like a kiddie ride, but this is one hill that has hardcore coaster nuts grabbing the bar.

It takes a wooden coaster fan to enjoy this ride. There are not many rides that I just full out love to ride with no exceptions, this is one of them. Its just pure fun...

The Cyclone (Oscar Bitler, 1933)at Williams Grove Park in Mechanicsburg, PA also has a double dip that does a good job of knocking you out of your seat.
