Review of The Beast @ Kings Island
-6 Rating Posted by: TylerEaves on 1/13/2002 5:50:00 PM
My single least favorite coaster. It has NO airtime (Which is what I think a good ride *MUST HAVE*) and the helix has never done much of anything for me. Give me the helix on Knoebels Twister any day. Oh, and its overbraked, and some of the worst PTC trains in exsistance.

You really must not know a good wooden coaster when you see, or ride, one. The Beast is the bomb and I dont know what you really see in Twister. Not exactly the most thrilling coaster in the world, or in the USA!

Ive heard the Beast isnt what it used to be.

Your evaluation of Twister is based on what exactly?
MagnumMan on 1/22/2002 5:08:57 PM said:
Natural thrills mainly. Twister to me just isnt really that exciting to me. Now im not saying that Twister is bad. It just isnt really that equal to The Beast, in my opinion.

But you HAVENT RIDDEN TWISTER.

Wow... single least favorite, eh? Im sorry Im just baffled since its my dads and my own favorite roller coaster. In my opinion The Beast is flawless. Sure there is no airtime, but the sheer power and disorientation is unbeatable.

all i have to say is ABSOLUTELY NO COASTER DESERVES A 1!!!
TylerEaves on 1/25/2002 10:47:42 PM said:
power and disorientation?!

How can it possibly have that? Ive seen rail lines with tighter curves and steep grades.

O come now, arent you being just a tad harsh???

I heard braking ruined this coaster.

I dont get how u can give this ride a one....Going through the woods at such a high speed is just awsome, plus the finale helix is simply amazing. And yes there is few spots where u can catch a small amount of air, but this coaster is not about air time it is about speed and power.
mmiddleton on 4/21/2002 3:56:48 PM said:
Its about speed, power and going through the woods. This ride in the front seat scares me and now with the new brakes I hear its got a little air time too. Should be better than ever. I also disagree with this rating.
daptwa on 4/22/2002 1:14:44 PM said:
Never ridden it but I can tell you its not a 1. How many times have you ridden this coaster?? If its more than once youre rating is a complete lie. How can you give any ride witha 140 foot drop in it a 1???
MagnumMan on 4/29/2002 5:50:14 PM said:
the first time ive agreed with you ever, on one of your comments, but this is comepletely true!
oldman on 5/22/2002 10:37:54 PM said:
Finally someone agreed with me that the ride is highly overrated! If going fast through the woods at night rates a ten, my drive to work on twisty Pennsylvania roads through the woods, at night, with only a center line, no tracks to keep you on line, and braking and swerving around deer, racoons, oppossums and skunks must rate a 50! But to me its a drag. Give me a real coaster like the Wildcat at Hershey or the Thunderbolt at Kennywood.

It amazes me that anyone can condemn THE BEAST. Consider the fact that it was built over 20 years ago and current woodies are still copying and trying to live up to the legend and ride it created. When it was built, wooden coasters were almost all the old OUT-AND-BACKs, but since then theyve been reimagined and 1000x more fun. Plus, I still contend that steel coasters mega-coasters (like PKIs own VORTEX and CPs MAGNUM) were developed so other coasters/parks could hope to contend with THE BEAST. It may, and stress the word MAY, be starting to show a lil age finally ... and if so, its only because CCI woodies have really taken other park woodies to THE BEASTs level. At that, keep in mind that CCI is owned and operated by the daughter of the man who was chiefly responsible for the design/construction of THE BEAST.
MagnumMan on 7/15/2002 2:33:36 PM said:
Very true. I guess it runs in the family because all the CCIs ive been on are absolute masterpieces. Two, The Villain (SFWoA) and MegaZeph (Jazzland) are on my Top 10 list. Also, you are right about people still trying to copy The Beast (The Raven at Holiday World as ive heard being the only good copy). The Beast obviously paved a way for other coasters.
