This is the cutest ride ever. I love it! The animatronics are adorable (especially the little gnomes), and some of those extremely long, very dark tunnels even creeped me out! The effects were nice too, and you get a little wet.

Awww, this rides so cute! I loved it. Its nice and gentle, almost soothing, and the stunts are adorable. The big red EXIT signs scattered throughout the ride are a little distracting, though; you dont get the total suspension of disbelief you do in a haunted house type ride. Still, very enjoyable, and definitely worth it. It works best as the last thing you do after a long, full day at Playland.

As an enormous dark ride fan, this ride was a little bit of a let down with respect to the standing positive reviews. The story was fun and the scenes that were there were well done, but the space in between the scenes is vast. I got disinterested in the ride to a degree after a series of these long gaps. The ride is worth riding by all means and is not terrible, but I just wish there were a few more scenes in there.

This ride ended up being the Highlight of my day. The ride is long coming in around 9 minutes. You will find scattered themed areas with the new updates. The story worked well and they did allot with the old ride to make it modern and enjoyable. Th light areas that had animatronics and effects had allot to see and I even cringed at a few effects. The dark section didnt seem dull with Music, mist, and strobe lights keeping them lively. The ventilation fans almost seem like a planed part of the attraction. Best park it having the dragon coaster speed by over head creating a none planed addition to the dark ride and heeling the experience be a little deferent.

APPEARANCE: The Ye Old Mill looks fantastic as the windmill really adds to the rides appearance, especially at night with the lights on. Also, the station looks great with the water wheel, animatronics, and a map depicting where the ride takes place (complete with troll world, the water mill, ect.). I also really liked the look of the boats as they had a classic feel to them. Finally, Playland maintains this ride perfectly, as while the ride was originally built in 1929, its in excellent condition.

WAIT TIME: Walk On- This classic never has a line like many of Playlands rides. From what I have seen, Ye Old Mill has a very high capacity as Playland has a lot of boats. Also, Playland dispatches the boats relatively quickly.

RIDE: The Ye Old Mill certainly is an old classic that provides a one of a kind ride. Beginning the ride is a lift hill which was completely unexpected and following that were a series of long crawls down very dark and eerie tunnels that certainly add to the rides atmosphere and enhanced my ride. I especially liked the storm tunnel which was very cool and I got fairly wet from the mist. Also, there were some suprise encounters with trolls and even a dragon throughout the ride. At one point during the ride a troll squirted me with a water gun and I got a little wet. All the effects worked perfectly and the ride was exceptionally long (at least 6 minutes). Finally the Dragon Coaster rumbling overhead even added to the rides atmosphere.

FINAL VERDICT: The Ye Old Mill is a great classic that cant be missed. This easily is the best of Playlands dark rides and a unique dark ride that is one of the best I have been on.

I need to go back to Rye and ride this one again. I remember reading the story on the sign before you got on line, and I was completely hooked. This may have been one of the rides that made me fall in love with dark rides as a child.

I liked this ride alot, but I cant help but wonder what the original ride was like. the troll theming is fun, but I wanted a more spectacular effect at the end when the trolls play their final trick, maybe some broken beams or something.

The surprise of the entire vacation.
You could tell that this ride was recently re-done. A long ride, not thrilling, but fun. All of the stunts worked fine and you could actualy follow a little bit of a story. The Storm Tunnel was really neat.

UPDATE: Dropping this down to Average from Don't Miss. It has changed over the years. Everything still works and is in great shape, but it is now lighted inside with green christmas type of lights through the entire course. I suppose the fatal accident of a few years back may have been the reason for this change, but the tunnels now beign lighted takes a lot away from the ride. The only thing that saved this from being rated Poor was the fact that the ride is so unique.

Although it would have been more interesting if Playland had stuck to the original concept of this ride (ie given it a more historic treatment), it is quite enjoyable. There are a couple of particularly dark spots, and the windy tunnel is very cool. The stunts are in great shape, and very clever. Dont pass this one up - its a rare find.
