Built by the park's own crew back before the park was even Dollywood, this is a pleasant little indoor ride that is somewhat of a hybrid between a darkride and a roller coaster. Thanks to three rather sudden drops between powered segments, it is perhaps best described as the latter. Until recently there was a splashdown at the end that gave it even more character, and soaked riders, but that was removed by the end of the 2011 season. Despite its age, and dated but still quite amusing scenery along the ride, it serves its purpose well. The storyline is hard to follow with the water removed and other elements not functioning as they did way back when, but that's no big deal. It's still a fun ride to take a spin on after lunch or when it's raining out - as it operates regardless of the weather if I recall. For the most part the ride is gentle, with long powered segments through gradual slow inclines and wide turns, but the train coasts down two sudden drops, reaching a top speed of somewhere around 20mph. In the dark, they're a bit more thrilling than that would indicate, although the relatively cheesy effects make the drops easy to note ahead of time if you're paying attention. For the hardcore thrill seeker, this is a good 'resting' ride, and an excellent family ride. The theming throughout the queue area is great, with all sorts of firefighting memorabilia, and the station itself resembles a fire station, with the trains themselves even painted to match. Anyone with connections to firefighting would find this a gem. The only downside is the lines can be rather long depending on operations. I don't know how many trains they have, but when I was there, there was literally no line, and it still took quite a bit to get on, as the ride length is rather long, the pace is slow, and there was only one train operating. But if you're in Dollywood, this historic gem is definitely worth riding.

I grew up nearby and have ridden TBF more times than I can remember; in fact one rainy day when everyone assumed all rides were closed, my cousin and I rode it over 20 times in a row. I admit, it is kitschy but it works with the overall country theme of Dollywood and is a great starter "coaster" for kids as someone has said. I haven't ridden it lately (I moved away almost 10 years ago) but it will always be a classic to me. I love the fact that it was hand built by park staff originally (when Dollywood was still Silver Dollar City), too.

If it wasn't for this ride, I never would have rode the other coasters. I never USED to be a fan of roller coaster since I was little. At first I thought it was a lot like Pirates of the Carribean with the scence types. I was surprised with the drops at first. It is an excellent BEGINNER coaster. They could have done a little more with some empty spots by adding a few scenes. My boys love it too. We have now graduated to the other coasters at Dollywood.

This ride is a classic. The first time I rode this (back in the late eighties), I was surprised by the roller coaster sections even though it doesn't go very fast it is still something most dark rides don't have. The technology is old but I don't think they should change a thing because that is part of what makes this ride a classic. The theming is very good throughout the entire ride. I highly recommend this ride. Rating 4.5

This is a very intresting dark ride / coaster. It has a water splash down so catagory wise i am not sure where to place it. As for the ride itself its very cool. it has some unexpected things in it. for fear of spoiling the ride i will not tell you what and where they are. only that its a very fun ride for all ages.

Blazing Fury was a very interesting and unusual roller coaster. It actually seems like a stretch to call it a coaster, as it worked more like a track ride / train ride for the good majority of its duration. It reminded me somewhat of the Calico Mine Ride at Knotts Berry Farm - an indoor train ride through sets that, while different in theming, are equally old-fashioned and cheesy. This one is themed to firefighters as they put out various blazes, but it never took itself very seriously. The only real coaster part came at the end when a covered bridge on fire collapsed beneath the train, sending us down into the water. This was actually a pretty neat little effect. I rode at first in the back, and I always felt like I was just behind the action (I heard the dialogue before the back of the train actually got to that particular set). So I rerode in the front, which did solve that problem, but it also gave me a pretty strong whiplash during the final splashdown that I didnt experience in the back. At any rate, I left Blazing Fury considering it a reasonably fun and certainly a unique experience at Dollywood.

Date Ridden: April of 2007 Times Ridden: 1 I put Blazing Fury on par with a good family coaster. I dont think a 5 is a bad score since I enjoy virtually every ride I go on in any theme park. I have had a few exceptions but Blazing Fury is not one of them. The line is normally short and/or quick moving. The ride is cool on the inside, and the thememing is nice. This is obviously very similar to Fire in the Hole at SDC. There are really no riding tips for this coaster/dark ride. It is completely comfortable, there are no rough parts at all, and families can take their children on it without problems despite some of the darker areas. The little drops are fun as well. Do you want big thrills? Well, this is not the ride but Dollywood does have a top of the line woodie that I think a few people have heard of. You should probably spend most of your time on it but dont forget about Blazing Fury. Its a nice quiet way to get an extra credit.

Decent dark ride/coaster combination that is certainly a unique ride. The dark ride part seemed out of date to me, but it was interesting at parts and better than nothing. I really liked the drops because they had some zip to them and were pretty sudden. I also got a little wet, but not too wet.

The first time I rode this I really had no idea what to expect, and if youre going to ride this for the first time I suggest you do the same. You have to like old dark rides to enjoy this as the coaster portion isnt really the highlight here. Not to ruin anymore of this quirky ride, Ill just say its an experience that I have not found in any other location.
