Review of Montu @ Busch Gardens Tampa

Montu is certainly a work of craftsmanship when it comes to B&M Inverts. However, it is also quite a schizophrenic ride. You never know which Montu youre going to be riding.

For example, our early-afternoon rides on Montu were at best 7 - 8s due to the trims kicking in with such brutality. It really dumbed down the otherwise intense batwing inversion and the post-MCBR portion just dragged.

On the other end of the spectrum, my girlfriend and I decided to tackle Montu for a few more cycles at the end of the day. Luckily, these last three rides were virtually trim-free, which I understand to be relatively rare these days. There was a slight squeeze of the brakes flying into the batwing, but they were quite minimal and the inversions pulled some serious gs. The MCBR decided to be generous as well on these last few cycles, and the second vertical loop was very intense, as was the final wingover element.

Overall, Montu is a fantastic invert and currently my favorite of the nine that Ive ridden. The key, however is to catch it on a good day, as several of the reviews have said already. I feel extremely fortunate to have snagged three rides on this Egyptian beast in its prime.

Montu is also my favorite invert. Though I havent been on a few of the heavy hitters, like Nemesis, Katun, and Top Gun (Carowinds). Ive had some absolutely flawless rides on Montu. If all my Montu rides were like that, it would be my favorite coaster ever.

Nice review. As a big fan of inverts, I have to say that Montu is #1 on my must-ride list for them, with Top Gun at Carowinds running a close second.

Yeah, I really need to ride Top Gun, ahem, Flight Deck again sometime soon... probably in 09 if Im lucky. I rode it in 04 and cant remember it very well. I remember it to be pure badass, though, so who knows... it may end up reclaiming the top spot on my invert list. Regardless, Montu was an insane coaster.

Either way, more of these rides should have the batwing element as opposed to a generic cobra roll. At least you gave Montu the props it deserves, it makes Alpie look bad

Top Gun and Montus batwings are definitely amazing, but is it because of their rarity that we find them so appealing? Or the actual forces produced?

The forces on the bottom of the batwing are sooo much better than the ones, say, in between inversions on a cobra roll.. plus a trench is always cool..

I suppose youre right. Still, I find Alpengeists Cobra Roll more disorienting than any batwing element...even if the batwings are more interesting
