Review of Dodgem @ Cedar Point

Its really a shame that a park this great has a set of bumper cars this awful. Dodgem is easily the worst flat ride at Cedar Point, and by a wide margin. These things are pretty pathetic, and I can summarize a typical ride experience on Dodgem.

Enter the line, and begin waiting....and waiting....and waiting. ("Good lord, I swear shes checked those seat belts 6 times!" Yawn. Move 6 feet, repeat waiting. All right, now we can finally get on this thing! Maybe theyll be better this time.....ok, can you check any slower? No, seriously, Im gonna cramp up in this thing waiting to start! *Ding* Ok, here we go, lets find some friends to hit....why the hell am I moving backwards? Wait a minute, which way do I have to turn this thing? Arrrrgh!! I turn left, and it goes right! *bump* Well, I almost felt that. Ok, lets go....*bump* Did a bug hit the side of my car? Wow, its great that Im moving slower than on the antique cars!! :snore: *bump* *bump* *bump* You know what this thing really needs? How about another 20 cars!?! Hey, theres my friends! All right, Im lining them up now! Here we go.....*Ding* Wow, got almost 90 seconds that time! Shake head and exit the ride, all the while laughing at how putrid your car was.

I still have some fun on these hunks of junk, but only because its my mission to overcome the crap cars and try to "hit" a friend while going about 0.6 mph! Plus, well usually greatly overexaggerate when we do collide, which is always worth a laugh. That is about the only thing that saves these from the depths of a 1. These really are the anti-bumper cars, as they are laughably slow and have the impact of a nerf ball thrown by an infant. Add that to the ridiculous wait and I have two words for you - keep walkin!!

LOL Awesome review that really cracked me up! The sad part is that the description of a ride on these clunkers is dead-on accurate! Which is probably what made me laugh so hard. These things really are awful.

It really does baffle me that they cant invest in a decent bumper car ride at the Point. In fact, maybe its a Cedar Fair thing, because Dorneys bumper cars suck pretty bad as well. Too bad those amazing Lusse Skooters arent more popular at parks, although if they were I might not love Knoebels Skooters so much!

I had a similar experience with CPs bumper cars. They go super slow and dont hit hard at all.

MIAs are awful also. I think it is a CF thing as harder bumper cars might cause one person to complain, so they just lower everything to appease the masses. I really wish we could sign a waiver at amusement parks saying we wont sue so rides can been ran like they are in other countries.

Yeah, wouldnt want to get bumped on the bumper cars. Anything but that!

^^I think youre absolutely right with why theyre probably so tame/lame. It makes me wonder about bumper car rides in the former Paramount parks, like Kings Island. Ive never been, so I wonder what theirs are like. I would hope CF wouldnt mess with them/close them just because they may hit harder than the "typical" ones at others in the chain. And Id gladly sign that waiver to get rides that are run right. Youve been over to Europe; what are their bumper cars like? (if they have them)

At the worst europe parks the cars are still above average. Southport and Chessington both had good ones. not Knoebels good, but defintely better then most chains here.
