Very interesting ride. The illusion still puzzles and confuses me. Can anone tell me what exactly happens and if you actually turn upside down?

Its the room that revolves around you. You dont actually go upside down.
Horizons12 on 9/10/2005 11:14:45 PM said:
Yeah, like praxis said, the room revolves; but the seated area also swings back and forth a bit to make it feel like you are being flipped over.
larrygator on 9/10/2005 11:15:02 PM said:
If you want a good view of what happens, sit on the end of the aisle and look at the bootm of the wall as the ride runs. You can see how slight the swinging really is.

I dont like sitting on the end seats of rides like this, or simulators, because it ruins the ride experience a little. Dont sit on the end, if you want the ride to still be very fun, and puzzling.
larrygator on 9/11/2005 11:23:19 PM said:
King - it only ruins the experience if you stare in the area I mentioned. If you look across from you or to the center of the room the effect is the same.

Good point.

The real name for this atraction is a mad house. the ride gose back prioty far. The origanal ones the walls revalved around but you didnt move. Vekomas updated mad house noves the platform your on slightly(like mentioned erlyer) pluse sits you in an okward position to give you a higher feeling of movment. the outer wall(like mentioned before) moves in contrast of the platform fooling your brain into thinking your movign more then you are and in time upside down.

These rides are devious, and are a simple consept, that can make your mind spin like crazy.
mrceagle on 9/13/2005 4:06:17 PM said:
True, personaly I think the best thing about them is its a family atraction.
Canobie Coaster on 9/13/2005 4:35:20 PM said:
I know. There isnt a height requirement, so everyone can ride. It only isnt good, if children are afraid of the dark, or you dont like your mind getting dizzy.
Horizons12 on 9/13/2005 11:41:06 PM said:
I think the room should spin really fast.
Canobie Coaster on 9/14/2005 6:02:55 AM said:
If they spun the room very fast, during the whole ride, people wouldnt be able to see the theming, and too many people would get dizzy. Maybe, they could speed the ride up at the end, as a big finale, but that would be the only time that it may spin very fast.
mrceagle on 9/14/2005 9:55:16 AM said:
Thing is if you spin the room to fast your brain wont have time to proses the changing room. basicly you woudl defeat the ilusion.
Hercules on 9/14/2005 10:09:25 AM said:
First off, Im pretty sure Horizons was joking. And technically there is a height restriction - anyone under 48" must be accompanied by an adult. I know that just about anyone can ride, but they must have an adult.

Well, I think that Houdini is perfect, the way it is right now, except for the problems with the safety exits.
mrceagle on 9/14/2005 4:45:19 PM said:
All they need is a backup generater to bring it back to point a. mayb ethey can aslo use the down time to fix allot of the unoperating gags.
Canobie Coaster on 9/14/2005 5:03:29 PM said:
That would have worked, but I think that they reopened again.
mrceagle on 9/15/2005 1:08:25 PM said:
What makes you think that. everything I have checked still says its closed.
Canobie Coaster on 9/15/2005 2:49:02 PM said:
I think it may have closed again. If it is open, they can make the changes during the off season. However, I think that Houdini, only needs a new safety exit, and it would be fine.
mrceagle on 9/15/2005 5:19:18 PM said:
Its not the faft exit thats the problem. its the fact that when the platform moves you cant get out the doors.
Canobie Coaster on 9/15/2005 5:44:11 PM said:
Oh. Thats what caused the problems.
Hercules on 9/15/2005 8:28:37 PM said:
I know that you guys are off in your own little New Englander world here, but this is the ride at Great Adventure and it is open. I kind of figure that you guys are talking about the one at SFNE, but I just wanted to clarify that for anyone that was confused. I hope it is open this Saturday because I want to get a ride on this freakin thing and find out what it is all about.
Canobie Coaster on 9/16/2005 5:34:53 AM said:
Oops. Are both of the Houdinis the same, or are they a little different?
mrceagle on 9/16/2005 11:20:14 AM said:
Teh one in SFGAdv is a bit fancyer and has better and more effects.
Canobie Coaster on 9/16/2005 6:34:12 PM said:
Did they fix the problem, with the ride (the doors not opening)?
Horizons12 on 9/16/2005 9:58:57 PM said:
For the record, yes I was joking about spinning the room fast, hence the devil smiley. But it would be interesting to see the room spinning fast as well. Structural stability comes into play at a high speed of course.
Canobie Coaster on 9/17/2005 5:38:13 AM said:
I think that the ride is fine just the way it is. Otherwise, it would be possibly too scary for children.
mrceagle on 9/19/2005 4:16:41 PM said:
Though the platmform dosnt move check out the one at Clarks Trading Post in NH. theres spins resanably fast. King they havnt fived the problem its jsu that NJ dosnt see it as a big problem like MA dose.
Canobie Coaster on 9/20/2005 4:18:57 PM said:
Im not too fond of these rides, but I have been on the one at Clarks Trading Post. Overall, I think Houdini is fine, the way it is, because it compliments the high-tech thrillers, like Nitro, Kingda Ka, and Medusa.
