Review of Curse of DarKastle @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Curse Of Darkastle, hmmmmm, well may I just say this was my most anticapted ride opening since "Superman The Escape" in Magic Mountain. Unfortunatly I was very, very dissapointed. Ive ridden this ride maybe a half dozen times by now hoping it gets better, hoping for it to be something that its not. First the story, ITS COMPLETE CHEESE! The story line of this ride is weak, not well thought out, and does nothing for the overall dissapointment of this ride. The first time I rode it I hated it, I probably would have given it a 5 than, but it has since slightly grown on me. I cant say to much because I dont want to spoil this ride for anyone. The worst part of this ride is the climax, TRULY PATHETIC, its a fall scene that does not for one second sell your sences that you are remotly falling. Tip, sit in the front seat on this ride. The back seat is unbarably boring to your sences since your elavated and can see the lack of details inside the ride. Atleast in the front you are consumed by the screen. Many people hate this ride BUT just as many LOVE this ride. Overall Id call it a mistake, I was hoping it was like the "Indiana Jones Adventure" at Disneyland but with monsters and spookier effects.....ITS NOT! It is not thrilling nor is it remotly spooky, Cheesy is the first word that comes to mind. Indiana Jones is a top 10 thriller, Darkastle is a.......well I dont know what it is, Ill just call it a dissapointment. Im giving it a 7 because........well I dont know why, I guess because its grown on me, Id give it 6.5 if I could but I cant, so there ya go.........edit.....I changed my mind Im giving it a 6 bacause I dont want to get anyones hopes up, come to Busch Gardens for "Alpengeist" and "Apollos Chariot" ride this and get a cheap thrill, just dont expect much.

I thought the details were very well done

The detail Im speaking of is more about from the back seat you can look around and its like your in a big werehouse, you can see dark movie screens which you either just left or are going to. Front seat is superior. From the front the ride is a 7 the back a 5, hence my 6 rating.

Its far from a 1 and you know it...and in my opinion its far from a 6. But at least viking backed up why he rated it like that. If he sincerely didnt enjoy the ride as much as he hoped, then, yes....he definitely has a right to voice his disappointment. But youre ridiculous, Anonymous

Hey relax, this is a ride review not a name calling contest. Everyone has a right to there opinion here and as I acknowledged in my review many people love this ride. I didnt as did many others. Id say the group is really split down the middle. My wife loved it, I was bored. Also Im not into the whole 3D thing, it seems outdated. Thats why I much rather prefer a real special effects ride like "Indiana Jones Adventure", a superior experience! I really think they need a better story line for this thing to, as I said before its quite cheezy.

Good review over all and the new info you provided helps out allot. I can understand if your not into 3D that this ride and Spiderman might not be your cup of tea. I understand these rides rely highly on the 3D aspect and littel on everything else. so I can see how you mmight think the ride is avarage since the 3D wasnt what you were looking at. you were honist enough to say that others think its great. Only thing I have against it is the "dont get your hopes up" statment. it prosents teh idea that everyone may be desapointed.

And anonymous everyone here agrees that your a big pile of dog crap.I also though this was a good review,Is this ride and spiderman the same type of ride?
viking78 on 6/17/2005 3:12:46 PM said:
Yes they are the same type. Although Spiderman doesnt have the cheese factor that Darkastle does. The story in the ride feels thrown together. We are told basically that Prince Ludwig becomes a werewolf by looking into the eyes of some wandering old lady who herself becomes a wolf......Huuuuh?!...Exactly.

Seriously, this supposed to be a discussion on "Curse Of Darkastle" not baby talk. FLA8 dont let the anonymous bait you, its what he wants.

Viking...how is that cheesy? It is supposed to be mysterious and creepy. Looking into an obviously supernatural-wolves eyes and seeing a vision isnt my idea of cheese. I hate it how people bash DarKastles storyline. Sure it is weak in many areas, but IT IS NOT a familiar storyline. The Adventures of Spiderman already had a movie and years of comic books and cartoons helping its case. PEOPLE KNOW THE STORY. DarKastle....nobody knows the story and therefore when they are exposed to it for the VERY FIRST TIME with a 2 minute video, they will not all be entirely convinced. Do you honestly think that if Spiderman was never in existance and a theme park decided to build a ride themed to a guy who has spider-powers with only a brief 2 minutes to fully explain how he came across these powers that people wouldnt think it was cheesy? Its only because Spiderman has been accepted into Americas culture that the ride is such a success and the story is deemed "not cheesy."

Im gonna try to hit BGW again this weekend, so hopefully DarKastle will be fully fucntioning this time. My last visit, a lot of the sound effects werent working, so it was really hard to get into the ride. And yeah, Ill continue to ignore Anonymous....
