Review of Scream! @ Six Flags Magic Mountain
-1 Rating Posted by: BobFunland on 9/4/2003 6:41:00 PM
Wow, I really liked this ride. Maybe Im overrating it, but the whole floorless element was pretty cool- my first such experience. The first drop was pretty cool, even though it seems like the curved drop is all that B&M uses. The cobra roll was pretty big, and the corkscrews were cool, but again, isnt Medusa the same way. Cant B&M come up with some original ideas? Also, someone mentioned the helix that makes it seem as if your almost touching the parkinglot- and its true- you really do get close to the ground. I loved it.I have since ridden Scream!s predeccessor, Medusa, and while it delivers a similar, awesome ride, the setting was much better and overall it made quite a difference. I think a one point deduction for the parking lot setting is fair, and that works out to an 8 for Scream!

The Medusa at Marine World doesnt have a curved drop.

To answer your question "could B&M come up with some original ideas." Yes, but the question is can Six Flags dish out some extra cash to make it an original design. At least its not exactly like Medusa, by that mean it goes in a different direction.

B&M comes up with original ideas, Red Rascal, and Six Flags pays them to build clones.

Yes, examples of unique B&M floorless are Hydra and Dominator, and maybe S:KC.

Well, Hydra wasnt around when I reviewed this. Plus, I was comparing this to other coasters, such as RR, BTRs. Montu, SUF... there are a lot of B&Ms with a similar first drop.

Well, Hydra had just been annouced when you wrote the review (I know I know Im nitpicking, sorry). Also, its cheaper to build a clone rather than a unique coaster. Why not build a ride a few million dollars cheaper that no one but coaster enthusiasts have ridden on the other side of the country? With the financial situation SF is in, they need every million dollar they can save.

Oh, I understand, and that argument was brought up above too. And no one outside of Dorney or B&M knew what the layout would be.
