Review of Top Thrill Dragster @ Cedar Point
-5 Rating Posted by: Volcano155 on 5/12/2003 12:08:00 AM
The launch is awesome but after that the ride loses its appeal for me. The ride rushes past so fast that its hard to take the experience all in. If you took away the launch Dragster would be a pitiful version of Power Tower.
Id ride it again if I didnt have to wait more that an hour for it. Any longer than that Ill pass.

I wouldnt say it was a let down. The only expectations I had for Dragster were it would be the tallest and fastest. It easily met these. Its worth riding at least once to be able to take a credit for it.

you said- "If you took away the launch Dragster would be a pitiful version of Power Tower."

Riiiight. Even though it is almost 200 ft taller (than the 240 ft. you go up on Power Tower) Includes an actual hill with crazy aitime, has a much more intense launch, and does a 270 degree twist straight down... Why would you try compare it to Power Tower? Its 10 times better. I went on it and waited 6 hours on opening day and I feel that every second I waited in line was worth it.

I agree, if you like power tower, how can you not find this ride amazing. I havent ridden it, but considering every other reviewer has named it there new favorite ride and has given it a 10, i find it hard to believe that it deserves an 8. I will find out though June 16.

At least he gave reasons for his review, more then many people do, though the reviews for TTD have for the most part been well writen. Because you do not agree with the review does not mean it is a bad review, there is a differance.

I have not written a review in some time, but I have a little complaint of this ride. I was watching this thing since September, looking everyday at the updates, reading the construction diary. Waiting for my turn to ride this massive coaster was torture. Then the day came, a week ago, where I got to get to Cedar Point. I am a major fan of this park, Im going back in two weeks. However, I watched this thing For every second as we were there waiting for my group to be ready to ride this. We got in line at 3. We waited for an hour and a half and it broke down. We thought, big deal, we will wait for them to work it out. Then it opened again. We were in line for another hour and a half. We got up to the station, and it broke down again. This time however, while I was feet away from feeling victory, they closed the ride because of malfunctions. 3 1/2 hours of my day at Cedar Point wasted because of some malfunction the ride hosts didnt know what was wrong. After that, we had no time to do hardly anything, as the park was only open till 8 that day. So as of right now I am a little bitter at the thought of this ride. They opened it again as we got out of line. THeming is good, but Intamin, come on, give us some new rides that are dependable from the start (if you hadnt noticed the trend of brakedowns the first year of all their launched rides). But they are good rides, and I am sure this one is even better, but we will have to see.

Just because Draqgster is the tallest and fastest doesnt mean it has to be the best. This ride is a "one trick pony" that may have some of the less traveled people here at TPC thinking its the best there is. Im entitled to my opinion. The launch is impressive but the pacing through the rest is too fast to be able to take it in.If you dont like this review, tough. The 8 stands.

In response to CoastrCrazs post: the rides ops say they dont know why the ride is down because it is their job to say that. There is nothing riders can do to fix the problem, so there is no use in spreading mechanical error information among us.
Also, I am open to opinions, but I find it hard to believe that this ride received an eight. It is a one trick pony...if you consider an unprecedented 120mph and 420 feet in height going 90ยบ up and down, outstanding utilization of twists, and the emphasis on speed (remember: this ride is supposed to mimick a top fuel dragster!) by bringing riders to a screaming, yet smooth halt after reaching peak speeds. You may want to ride a few more times or open your mind to the idea that Cedar Points rides are not ONLY record-breakers; they are amazing, thrilling, and FUN record-breakers.

Bserwin3 your just mad uz people say this is better than the Hulk, and your too narrow minded to realize it.

o yea man im mad, i actually care what people say. man you got me, actually, not. i dont care what pother people say about the hulk, i dont care what people say about TTD. I perfer loops over speed or hills, so i know that TTD wont top the hulk.

Govnoed you havnt even rode this ride yet. So you would have no idea what this coaster is like. If he gave it an 8 thats his opinion. But calling him names and stuff is pretty immature. Hulk is my 2nd favorite ride.

To Bista: Ive ridden Dragster twice. Both rides were virtually identical. Ill ride it again if the waiting time is reasonable but I wont waste 3 or 4 hours at Cedar Point waiting for this one trick pony. There are better thrill rides there to go on. If you want to spend your day (and money) for a couple rides on Dragster, be my guest. That means the lines for Millie and Raptor will be shorter.
To the pissant Commie: Dragster is only scary to look at. The ride itself goes by so fast you dont have time to be scared.
