Finally some more info on the ride the Stratosphere in Vegas is proposing.

The Stratosphere has asked Las Vegas for permission to build a roller coaster that will launch riders from a height of 740 feet across Las Vegas Boulevard at speeds topping 120 mph. If the project were approved and built, it would be more than twice as tall and nearly 30 mph faster than the 310-foot Millennium Force at Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio, which holds the world record in both categories.

God bless Vegas! :)

I LIVE IN VEGAS!!! YEE HAW!!! WHOOP-DE-DOO!!! I can't even wait. However it won't be easy to get the permits. A local housing associtation is bent out of shape because they think it will be too loud and distrupt their neighborhoods. To them I have one word: MOVE!!! I want this coaster!!!

Um, isn't the Steel Dragon 2000 in Japan higher and faster than Millenium Force? It's supposed to be about 20 feet higher and a few mph faster. Unless something changed.

I don't believe it. That would be awesome. Since I live in San Diego and go there every summer it would be easy for me to ride.

Bad news: The Las Vegas Planning Commitee rejected the proposal. The vote was 2 to 3 against with one person abstaining. The commitee member whos Ward was in the proposed coaster site was ALL for the coaster. He said that it would attract so much more foot trafic to the other side of the strip (those of you that have been here before know what I am talking about) and it would help the Stratosphere tremedously. Also they said that Arrow Dymamics has done more than an incredible job of trying to make it as good for they neighbors as they could (i.e. using polyurethane wheels to reduce noise) but it wasn't enough. Another one of the big arguments was that the skline would be disrupted. If you look back, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty were both not liked in early phases. The Stratosphere was the same way. When it was first built we called it the "BUT Tower" (Big Ugly Tower), now it is on all kinds of seals and decals of thing around the valley. Bottom line is that the comitee was wrong, they want to revitalize downtown, but whenever something like this comes up, they reject it. This was a great opportunity, and it was not successful. They will meet again in Mid-October to review this item once again.
