I believe that Cedar Point is America's best kept secret and I would love to know what you all think as well. I have always seen advertisements for Six Flags and Disney attractions but never for Cedar Point. I am a coaster enthusiast just like all of you. I was about 12 years old when I first heard of Cedar Point and its dynasty of coasters. Since keeping up with the place I have always wondered how it can be voted the best in the world and never be advertised anywhere out of state? The park is the best in opinion as well. I have visited Disney World and loved all the attractions but really missed out on the thrilling portion of the place. Granted the beauty of Disneyworld is perfect but thats all I really found attractive. I went to Cedar Point this year in the latter part of July after planning the trip a few months in advance. My friend and I drove 10 hours just to see this mystic place. When we first pulled up and I finally saw Top Thrill Dragster erected over the trees I was in shock. The beautiful penninsula around my heaven, that is Cedar Point. Amusement Today wouldn't have voted the place the Best Amusement Park in the World SIX times in a row if they didn't know what they were talking about. While DisneyWorld and Six Flags continue to rack in the dollars, Cedar Fair quietly is rising more and more with its other theme parks as well. I live in MN and the park I am used to is Valleyfair! But Valleyfair isn't the best park in my mind. It was a park that I could take a nice short drive to and have fun for awhile. Since I went to Cedar Point its hard to even think of Valleyfair! I would walk around for 12 hours at Cedar Point from opening to close and not once get tired of the place. And that was for 4 days straight. At Valleyfair I was tired in about 3 hours lol. I would love to see everybody informed about this wonderland known as Cedar Point. Its only fair that everyone ride this perfected machines. I did a poll recently in my college on theme parks and found out that only FIVE people out of the 100 that I talked to knew about Cedar Point. When I asked them if they knew of Disneyworld everyone one said they knew of it. Cedar Point needs to be nationally advertised. I knew the place was going to be the best and I was not dissapointed when I arrived there. So in my mind Cedar Point is America's best kept family filled secret and I would love to hear what others have to say about this. Thank you.

It's not really a secret, so many people know about it.

From where I am from nobody has ever heard of the place. I'm just saying I would love see it advertised nationally and given the praise it deserves throughout the nation. We all know about the Point obviously but MANY others do not. Especially people not within the region.

That's probably why you're not seeing the CP commercials on your TV.

Disney is like a world landmark, everyone seems to know about it. I get their commercials here too, I also get the Universal ones. Plus, I don't think CP markets to the whole US, like Disney and Universal seem to do. The reason you see SF commercials is because Great America is a few hundred miles away and they're marketing to your area.

Cedar Point really only seems to be known around the states by people who are following this business. Now like I said before its hard for me find people who have heard of the place. Cedar Point should be advertised immensely and I know it would pay off a lot in there next year. Except it would ruin the crowding aspect of it.

That's what I would do if I was running the marketing dept. at CP. I'd market it to the whole country through advertisements and promotions like giving away tickets on game shows and having the park featured on TV shows and specials, and also having special events at the park, like concerts and all that crap. It would pay off really well. Too bad I don't run their marketing department.

You guys are dreaming. It's not a destination. It's an amusement park. That's the kind of place the normal person will drop in on for a few days then continue their trip to wherever they are going. They won't market to the country until they have, first year round attractions, and a second park. In this business it takes more than a single (no matter how great) park and a water park to turn into a destination. And the park is no secret. It's on the coaster specials all the time with that fat fuck Paul Reuben.

It's a resort, just like Disney, but without the eye candy.

Yeah it is something that people want to go to. The place is a destination, not a fly by.

Advertising is expensive. The return on investment would be small if running ads in markets that are too far from CP. A strong Public Relations campaign (articles in magazines) and word of mouth allow CP to draw the hardcore enthusiasts from around the country more efficient than advertising could

But the non-hardcore enthusiast isn't about to fly from a different country or a distant state for a few days at a single park. It's only a destination among enthusiast. Everyone else it's a flyby. To be a destination first they need to be open all year. Which is impossible due to snow. 2nd they need a second park. They've already got the water park, so they're convered there. Only then will families make a point and save up to fly to CP and vacation there.

Surly you guys don't believe that average people are flying to ohio to vacation at a single amusement park and water park for a 2-3 day trip? Not a very long vacation for someone from lets say Europe. It would be a flyby on to more places.

It's going to be open in the winter months, well, the indoor water park at least.

Plus, the park provides a beach to its guests. Tell me what other amusement park does that?

That's a start. But they need a 2nd park. They need to hold people for a week. Then it will be a vacation destination and the best way to acomplish that is by building a second park.

Disney World. Anyway I won't touch the beach argument. I'm a CA resident. So of course that's not a beach to me. It's a wanna-be beach. The great lakes or the Pacific? I think the Pacific just might be a little better. So I could care less about a beach on a lake. And most people would agree with me.

You haven't seen a beach until you've been to the Adriatic coast(Italy, Greece).

Of course it's a pathetic beach, but it's better than nothing. CP isn't a place to spend a week. Neither is any one park in CA, well, maybe MM since it might take that long to experience all of their coasters.

Believe it. When I went to BGW I met a couple who went to Ohio just for CP, and were stopping at BGW on their back to North Carolina. And it's funny how most (90%) of the people in my area have been to or have heard of Cedar Point.

And as far as the beach, people to the west of CP would rather go to the Great Lakes than go all the way to the Atlantic (it's cheaper) and they also get the park with it.

CP doesn't NEED any advertising to get noticed, they're already on top. But of course non-enthusaists don't know about it, because they don't sit on the computer all day and research roller coasters they're going to ride.

The park that can hold people in for the longest time, in my opinion is WDW. 4 parks, 3 waterparks, Downtown Disney, Wide World of Sports, and familys usually take a rest day for the kids. People need to follow WDW to learn how to get people to never leave.

You get people to stay for a long time if they're occupied, make many different things available, and they'll stay.
